It depends.  Is he under the age of 24 and a full time student?  If so and he normally would live at your home then he is temporarily away from home, so you would enter the Whole Year or 12 months.   If he is age 19 or older and not a full time student and his total income in 2025 was $5,200 or more then you cannot claim him as a dependent.  Otherwise you May be able to claim him as a dependent under the Qualifying Relative rules and enter 0 months for living in your home.   To be a Qualifying Relative - 1. The person cannot be your qualifying child or the qualifying child of any other taxpayer. A child is not the qualifying child of any other taxpayer if the child's parent (or any other person for whom the child is defined as a qualifying child) is not required to file an income tax return or files an income tax return only to get a refund on income tax withheld. 2. The person either (a) must be related to you or (b) must live with you all year as a member of your household. 3. The person's gross income for the year must be less than $5,200 (social security does not count) in 2025 4. You must provide more than half of the person's total support for the year. 5. The person must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S., Canada, or Mexico resident for some part of the year. 6. The person must not file a joint return with their spouse with the following exception - You can claim a person as a dependent who files a joint return if that person and that person’s spouse file the joint return only to claim a refund of income tax withheld or estimated tax paid.

I have a very simple tax situation - grad student, nonresident with one W2 under the standard deduction level, no foreign income, and no other schedules, forms, or credits/deductions. I can efile my federal tax but for Wisconsin it says "E-File is not available because your tax return includes a tax situation that can't be e-filed." Instead it says I can do a paper check or credit karma - I don't want the latter as it is my last filing in the US and I'd rather not have a check mailed internationally. Again, there are no additional forms or schedules on either return, I'm just reporting the one W2 and getting a full refund, and I have done this using direct deposit without issue in previous years as a nonresident efiler. I checked the Wisconsin website and while they have discontinued the state-run nonresident efile option as of this tax year the DoR says that "If you wish to file Form 1NPR electronically, you must use a tax professional or third-party software" (1NPR being the part-time/nonresident form), which in theory means Turbo Tax should still work. Possibly something needs updating in the software to enable efile? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you for this solution!

Usually if you are seeing "Status Not Available" on the IRS Where's My Refund? tool it indicates the return is received but not yet processed. It is also indicative of a delay due to high-volume, or system updates. It may also be a delay due to a need for further review of your tax return. Also, the IRS might be confirming your identity to prevent fraud.   Review your e-file confirmation to make sure that the IRS actually accepted your tax return.   Try checking the IRS2Go App. Sometimes it functions differently than the website. You can log into your personal IRS.gov account to see if there are any notices.   If it has been over 21 days since you e-filed or 6 weeks since mailing a paper return, you can call the IRS at  1-800-829-1040 (Mon-Fri, 7 AM to 7 PM). You will need your SSN, filing status, and exact refund amount.

No, I only had a heat pump. If you had earlier sections where you claimed credit, it should be fine. As long as you can manually answer "no" to 25a.
