If you are using TurboTax Do It Yourself (Online), you can   Unfortunately, once you have upgraded or added features to your TurboTax return, there is no way to downgrade or remove the extra features. You would need to create a new return to go back to the original product.    To start a new return, select “Start a New Return” from under “My Returns” in the bottom left corner. Once you have started your new return, you can select “View All Returns” from under “My Returns”. Then delete the unwanted return by clicking the small Trash Can next to it or “Delete” under the return’s name.

In Windows 11 Microsoft removed a legacy utility which TurboTax Desktop used to use in the license activation process. We have already updated TurboTax to remove the code that used the removed utility. However, if you installed TurboTax before it was updated (and after the legacy utility was removed), then that could cause the software to behave as if it was never activated.   I don't know why it's happening in Windows 10, though. You might want contact our phone support team to look into this further.

I purchased my used car in 2023 for $34080 and according to TT was allowed a Section 179 deduction of $10492. In 2024, the depreciation deduction TT showed was $2290 (I used my vehicle about 52% in my business).  This year, year 3, I have used my vehicle about 57% in my business and TT is showing no depreciation deduction.  The worksheets show all of this information but $0 depreciation for year 3.  The 2 year comparison is showing $0 for depreciation for 2024 even though I was allowed $2290.   I think something is wrong and that I should be allowed something for depreciation in 2025.   Any suggestions or advice?

I think there is a bug in the 2025 TurboTax Deluxe Desktop version.  I have used TurboTax to track my Roth IRA basis for many years but it is not working correctly this year. I select the "Traditional and Roth IRA Contributions" from the Deductions & Credits menu.  I respond to the step-by-step questions for myself and my wife (we are MFJ).  During my data entry, it skips the question "Do you want TurboTax to track (Thomas') Roth IRA basis?" and goes directly to the "What were (Thomas') Roth IRA contributions prior to 2025?" prompt.  (It asks both these questions for my wife's data entry.)  When I enter my total Roth contribution amount, it does not take into account the Roth IRA withdrawals from previous years.  The basis value in lines 6 and 23 on my IRA Information Worksheet form is the full contribution amount entered at the above prompt.  My 2024 IRA Worksheet does not have this error - it lists the correct amounts. Additional background - I have not contributed to my Roth IRA for many, many years.  I have performed Roth conversions every year from 2019-2025.  I have made Roth withdrawals in 2023, 2024 and 2025.  And one more comment - the "Learn more" link on the "What were your Roth IRA contributions prior to 2025?" page actually opens up a "Roth IRA Conversion" help topic, which is wrong. Please let me know if you need additional information to troubleshoot this software bug. Thank you.

To complete sections A and B of Part II, you'll enter your closed contract positions separately, but you'll also include information about any unrealized gain on the offsetting position in section A column (g). The TurboTax input questions mirror the form boxes:     This way, any realized loss(es) can be deferred to the extent of the associated unrecognized / open straddle gain. And for closed positions, you'll need to enter the separate sale info (dates/basis/expenses) to properly calculate the gain or loss from that specific closed contract (leg) - rather than net or combine any offsetting transactions together. This also avoids any mix-up of tax treatment on closed contracts / sale transactions.    This screen (below) is where you will complete the required Form 6781 Part II instruction "Attach a separate statement listing each straddle and its components." This is where you will identify the closed and open components from Part II / Part III as being legs of a specific straddle position:     IRS - Form 6781 Instructions IRS - How To Report Gains and Losses (Form 6781)   Note: The software does not support all of the reporting required of dealers in regulated futures contracts. A dealer is someone who is licensed in securities, has an established place of business, and regularly purchases securities for resale to customers. Among other requirements, dealers must report gain or loss on the sale of regulated futures contracts as self-employment income on Schedule SE.

So I uncheck the IRA box and it still won't accept.  I've been going in a loop for the past hour and I still can't efile my return.  I've tried all of the suggestions in these posts but none of them work. I NEED AN ANSWER THAT WILL WORK - IS THE ANSWER THAT I WILL HAVE TO PRINT OUT MY RETURN AND JUST MAIL IT IN?   THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!!

Did you already try:   Open TurboTax again Click the blue link Find a Tax File (which should bring up a list of ALL tax files, *.tax2025) ... and you didn't see any files? I have not encountered this issue before.    Try the following steps from this help article except look for 2025:   Select the Start menu and select search. Search for *.tax2025. Don't double-click the tax file in the search results to open it, as this can cause errors. In the left pane of the search results, select the > symbol next to the .tax file you're searching for. This will bring up information about this file in the right pane. In the right pane, select Open file location. By default, TurboTax saves tax files in the My Documents TurboTax folder. After locating the tax file in its folder, select your tax return. If this still doesn't locate your return, see this help article for instructions on how to contact TurboTax customer support depending on which product you are using.   @skimel  @russellhamm  @user17694464374

Yes, you are correct. Your 2025 CA Form 568 would report your initial year and your 2026 CA-568 would be marked "final."   @otsy
Can you clarify if you are trying to file a nonresident Massachusetts return? @choudhary-ro
I did not file yet and it will not allow me to select which area to revise.  I only get an error message and nothing else ... it goes nowhere.
How will I know if I have a direct deposit coming early
