It depends as to whether you need to file with FBAR. If the account was ever in your name then you would be required to file FinCEN Form 114a. If the account was closed and the money issue to you directly by check or deposit, then you many not need to file one.   Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR): The following are the most important that may affect you-- a financial interest in or signature or other authority over at least one financial account located outside the United States if the aggregate value of those foreign financial accounts exceeded $10,000 at any time during the calendar year reported. As far as the siblings they should also refer to the link to determine if any filing is necessary for them since they only received the rental income.   @FairFrankTax

You have purchased TurboTax Basic 2022, a desktop version that is not Mac compatible. To request a refund, please use the Refund Request form.  We have an online version for Mac from the tax year 2023 to the tax year 2025. Unfortunately, we do not have an online version for tax year 2022. The desktop version requires Windows OS and is not compatible with Mac.   https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tax/software/prior-year-taxes   Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
I would like to talk to someone on the phone if that's okay please?
Not sure what's going on with TT Business but the expenses need to be allocated unless they are directly related to rental use, like repairs made as a result of the rental.
I cannot see the info on the forms to put it into the other child's form. I cannot file until I add the info. What do I do?
Software doesn't work because of missing government forms but you can file online for an additional 173 dollars, what a lie.  On line doesn't need government tax forms.....really?

The culprit is often a cluttered or "broken" cache. Since these temporary files can interfere with how the software loads, cleaning them out usually fixes the issue.   If you are using the web-based version, try these three troubleshooting methods: Clear out your stored  cache and cookies  Use an Incognito or Private window Try logging in through a different web browser (for example, moving from Chrome to Firefox or Edge)

If you have an amount reported in box 12 of your W-2, but no letter code next to it, then you need to contact your employer for a corrected W-2.  There should not be anything in box 12 without a corresponding letter code that explains what the amount represents.   To move on, do not enter an amount in box 12 at all for now until you have more information from your employer about what the amount represents.

Yes, it can be challenging in some situations. As indicated by our tax expert @LeticiaF1, respond 'No' to the question and you can move forward since it was already reported in another year.  The program asks about it because there are some people that received the payment in 2025.  If that was not your case, and you already reported it in a previous year, then you can disregard the question.  Also there is an indication a member of our team was alerted). @lucylorraine

It can be, but not in the way most people expect.   With a reverse mortgage, the interest just keeps accruing over time since you’re not making monthly payments. The IRS only lets you deduct mortgage interest when it’s actually paid, not when it’s simply added to the loan balance. So in most cases, people only end up claiming that deduction when the loan is finally paid off (like after selling the home or settling the loan).   If you’re someone who’s making voluntary payments toward the interest, then that portion might be deductible in the year you paid it.   I found a pretty clear breakdown here if you want the full details reverse.mortgage/interest-tax-deduction   It’s one of those things that sounds like a yes/no question, but the timing makes a big difference.

Yes, TurboTax accommodates this.  Since you owned the home jointly but only your spouse met the two-year residency rule, you’re correct to compute a $250,000 exclusion rather than the full $500,000 usually available to couples.    When you go through the "Sale of Home" section, it's going to ask each of you individually how long you lived there. When you check "no" for yourself and "yes" for her, the software will automatically cap your tax-free gain at $250,000 on your joint return.
Yes, I filled them and that’s when she was told there was a calculation error. Everything appears correct except line 42000
