The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
The deduction is not on the same line as your standard deduction. It is shown separately.
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
(The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.

If you are not getting the senior deduction it is because
Your date of birth in MY INFO shows that you were not 65 by the end of 2025
Your income is too high
You are filing married filing separately

Do you and your dad live in the same household? If one of you has the desktop download software, that software can be used for five e-filed federal returns and the associated state returns---just by clicking New Return on your computer. You do not enter a code every time you use desktop because the software is on your own hard drive.

Thanks for your explanation. There is nothing in box 4 of the 1099R. The first that I saw the $1,000 being withheld was when I did my taxes through TT. The amount in lines 16 and 24 of the 1040 are the same. There's nothing on line 20. I did figure out that my taxable Social Security was raised and coupled with the Distribution, if both were taxed at 4.9%, would explain about $500 of the withheld $1,000. When I do my 2025 taxes I will look at Line 25b to see if $500 is added to the Fed Tax withheld, as mentioned above by AmyC. If you have any other ideas I would appreciate your input. Thank you so much!

Income reported in box 1 of form 1099-NEC is self-employed income. You are considered as self-employed and in IRS terms, are operating a business doing what you do to earn the income reported on the form 1099-NEC. You enter your form 1099-NEC in TurboTax and TurboTax will populate a Schedule C after you enter all your information. You can deduct any expenses you paid related to this activity (such as supplies, car expenses, etc.)
Self-employed income is subject to income tax AND self-employment tax (calculated at 15.3% on 92.35% of net self-employed income).
You do not own a business in the common meaning of the word. So in TurboTax answer that you use the cash method, that you do not have an EIN, that you materially participate in the business. You use your own name as the business name and your personal address as the business address. You can use 999999 as your business code.
You’ll need to use TurboTax Deluxe (or TurboTax Online Premium if you have expenses to deduct), or any version of TurboTax CD/Download.
You can read this TurboTax article for more information.
