This is stupid and the programmers at Intuit need to fix this.  I have an account at an institution and my spouse has a separate account at the same institution.  We get separate 1099-INTs.  There should be an option at import to "Add" or "Remove and Import".  Instead the only options are to "Remove and Import" or "Cancel".  Unbelievable that you think this is a "one-off" case.  Come on Intuit.

My Mom passed away December 30, 2025.  I have entered all the data and am reviewing her final 1040 paperwork before e-filing. I previously submitted an IRS Form 56 in person so that I can act on her behalf.  They took a copy of the death certificate and certificate of trust. When using turbotax I entered the info that triggered the "Deceased and date of death" entry into the 1040. And I entered my name as the "In Care Of" person to act on her behalf.  But when reviewing her filing packet prior to hitting "send" I don't see anything on the paperwork where I am signing for her.  In fact, the last thing being asked is for her to sign the return.  Minh-T1 posted some useful info but following his thread was a dead end for me.  I'm a little reluctant to submit a tax return as if I'm signing for a dead person, as the dead person.  Seems like that would be a guaranteed audit flag, but TurboTax doesn't have a prompt saying "Chill, on the next page you will be signing on her behalf."  It just keeps prompting me to work my way closer and closer to the abyss and before I know it I've filed as her.

Hi Patricia, I am happy to send  a Word or PDF file with screenshots of the errors and issues when I encountered them.  I do not have a *.tax2025 file with these errors displayed at this point.  Also, I do not want to send my actual tax file from a data privacy point-of-view.   R/ Mike
Sure we are here.   What problem are you having?  This isn’t a chat line but a message board.  You have to post a full question and wait for someone to reply.

It's hard to say why you're getting different results with such limited information.  Do you know if you both added a separate asset for the land, that is not depreciated?    Do you have your depreciation reports for the rental property.  If not, I suggest you get them from the CPA that helped you previously.  Take the information in the depreciation report and use it to adjust your rental property's Asset Worksheet in Forms mode.  If you enter the same cost basis, same date placed in service, and same accumulated depreciation in your Asset Worksheet that is on the Depreciation report then you should have the same depreciation expense.     As for not being able to take the loss, is your AGI above $100,000.  Taxpayers can deduct up to $25,000 in rental losses against ordinary income if their Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) is $100,000 or less, with the deduction phasing out entirely by $150,000.  For more information see the following TurboTax article: Rental Real Estate and Taxes

@heppm01   Every year when I help my friend on her Mac I have a hard time finding the prior year to transfer.   This year I’m using my Windows computer since her Mac is too old to install Turbo Tax.  So I needed to copy the 2024 file to transfer into my computer. The 2024 file was in her Documents folder.  I double clicked on it to open in the 2024 program.   It first updated the program then opened the return.  Then I saved the return and copied it to a flash drive to move to my computer.  I was able to transfer it into 2025.   I see that works for many Mac people this year to transfer.  See if you can open 2024 in the 2024 program.   Then save it.    Several ideas and fixes in this thread. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/attempting-to-import-last-year-s-tax-return-but-t... Some posts I found said…. After the program said it successfully transferred the information, I would click through and then it didn't show anything. All the fields were blank. I tried multiple times. What finally seems to have worked is I chose to select a file from my computer, instead of the .tax file that automatically showed up to select. I just saw another post where someone said they kept "fiddling with it" so I exited out of 2025 TurboTax and back in again and then it worked....so I transferred it quick! I opened my 2024 tax file using TurboTax 2024. It notified me that there were updates necessary to the software. I allowed it to update TurboTex 2024 and open my last-year's file. Then I re-saved the file. I then quit TT2024, re-opened TT2025, and was able to transfer the data.   I did as another stated. Opened TT2024, it updated the file. closed application. Opened 2025 TT to transfer 2024 in and it worked like a charm.   How to find tax files on Mac https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-data-file/help/find-your-tax-data-file-in-mac/00/26206

Thank you for the reply. I understand that the limit of my retirement saver’s credit would be only $54. The issue is that TurboTax won’t even give me that. This happened last year as well, and you gave me some workaround advice but it didn’t work. I finally gave up. Could it be a glitch in the program?
Yes - the latest software update fixed the problem, thank you!

I had a solar tax company complete the schedule C, business income/loss from solar compensation; form 4562, depreciation form and deprecation worksheet. I have all the completed forms with the correct numbers in all the correct boxes, I just need to get the forms within the software to enter information. Can you please provide the correct prompts to enter the information from the provided forms?  Thanks

You can try entering "Various Digital Assets" or "Cryptocurrency Portfolio" (or something similar).   The IRS requires each transaction to be listed, but if you import a file, the program generates a summary.   As long as the detailed breakdown is attached (done automatically by the program via the "Statement" or Form 8949), a collective name in the description field is acceptable.

I have been using turbo tax EVERY YEAR for over 20 years and was always mostly happy with the product.  I would even tell friends to use it because I was so happy with the product.  I purchased it this year not realizing that it requires Windows 11.  My computer cant install windows 11.  I want my money back and am deeply disappointed.  There is no way you can tell me that this simple software is incapable of running on a Windows 10 operating system.  I run incredibly complex engineering programs on this Windows 10 machine that would make turbo tax look like a child's game.  I cant return the product to Costco because I already opened it and I cant seem to figure out how to get Turbo Tax to refund me my money.  This is incredibly disappointing especially given my continued loyal toTurbo Tax for over 20 years.  I could not be most disappointed with this company.  Please do the right thing and give me my money back.

You can review your fees using the instructions below to find out why you're being charged.    You can follow the instructions in this article to remove any  unwanted Fees Why am I being charged for TurboTax Free Edition?   You can review your fees in TurboTax online as follows: Go to the left side of your TurboTax screen under "Tax Home" Go to "Tax Tools" then "Tools" The "Tools Center" Box will pop up Click on "My Fees" to see a summary of your Turbo Tax Fees. If you are using TurboTax Online and if you have not paid yet, or registered or filed your return, you can use the "Clear & Start Over" feature ‌by clicking on "Tax Tools" in the left panel of your TurboTax screen and then  "Tools" and then select "Clear & Start Over"  "Tax Tools" to delete your tax data.   Any unfinished returns that have not been filed are eventually purged from the system.  You can't cancel a pending e-filed return. The preparer of your K-1 may have reported more than one activity on one Schedule K-1.   At the screen Choose Type of Activity, click This K-1 reports in more than one of boxes 1,2, and 3.   Since your K-1 reports amounts in more than one of boxes 1, 2, or 3, the partnership/LLC is involved in more than one type of activity.  You should treat each activity separately in TurboTax.   So there will be one K-1 entry for box 1 income.  Only click on box 1 and the statement "This K-1...".   There will be a second K-1 entry for box 2 income.  Only click on box 2 and the statement "This K-1...".   The other boxes of the K-1 may refer to either box 1 income, box 2 income or a combination.  The preparer of the K-1 may have included attachments or detail which explain how those items break down.

In TurboTax, in the Wisconsin state income tax return, at the screen Underpayment Interest, the Schedule U is discussed.    At this screen, you may allow the Wisconsin Department of Revenue to calculate interest on an underpayment of estimated tax or you may see whether you meet an exception to the underpayment interest.   Wisconsin Department of Revenue Schedule U Underpayment of Estimated Tax by Individuals, Partnerships, and Fiduciaries may be found here.   Wisconsin Schedule U Instructions states:   Purpose of Schedule U    Use Schedule U to see if you owe interest for underpaying your estimated tax and, if you do, to figure the amount of interest you owe. It may be used by individuals, partnerships, estates, and trusts (except trusts subject to the Wisconsin tax on unrelated business income must use Form U, Underpayment of Estimated Tax by Corporations).    Who Must Pay Underpayment Interest    If you did not pay enough estimated tax by any due date, or if you did not have enough Wisconsin income tax withheld, you may be charged interest on the underpayment. This is true even if you have a refund when you file your tax return. Underpayment interest is figured separately for each due date. Therefore, you may owe underpayment interest for an earlier payment due date, even if you pay enough tax later to make up the underpayment.    In general, you may owe underpayment interest for 2025 if you did not pay at least the smaller of:   90% of your current year (2025) tax liability, or  100% of your prior year (2024) tax liability if you filed a 2024 return that covered a full 12 months.    Note: The alternative to pay 100% of prior year tax liability does not apply to an estate or trust with taxable income of $20,000 or more.

I have the exact same issue. Have been using Macintosh desktop TT for years and years and never had a problem importing prior year's data. This year, after trying to import into desktop TT 2025, it can't find last years file, and neither am I able to find it through browsing or using any combination of search terms. All the earlier years data files are still present, but the 2024 file is missing. There is zero percent chance I deleted this file.
