Hi, thanks for the quick reply. My specific rejection is that I'm missing the 1095 form, but I think it's asking me for that document because I clicked independent. When I go into my personal info, it does not let me make that edit. I am sure I misclicked because upon looking at the 1040 form PDF File, the 12a box is unmarked for "You as a dependent." EDIT: I just read filling out Retirement Savings Contributions kicks me off as a dependent. How to go about changing that?

Thanks for the response.. But I did the same, still I get the message that - "It turns out VANSH doesn't qualify as your dependent"

We should all be scared. TurboTax is taking everyone’s money with no explanation. Their own agents have no idea what is going on and they’re seeing we need to contact IRS.

I filed on Jan 24th and got this error code on the 28th. It said wait until after the 31st to refile so I waited and refiled on Feb 1st, but it was rejected again with the same error code. I called a TurboTax representative today and waited on hold for 35 minutes, but the guy was not helpful at all. He didn't really listen to what I said and told me that I probably made an error and to go back and check. I tried explaining the error code said it was a Turbo Tax error and he just doubled down on it being my mistake. I want to refile, but not sure if it's too soon. The error code says "This return was not e-filed due to a timing issue or a processing error that has been corrected. Open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing. If the reject continues you will need to print and file this return by mail."

Many thanks VolvoGirl for the detailed reply. I had wondered if that was the case. Seeing as when using the On-Line version, it obviously has access to all my 2024 efile information as it fills in the relevant details as usual. Including my bank information. I would consider the problem a bug. I actually called the 1-800 number today, and spoke with a very knowledgeable and patient representative who resolved my problem, and I successfully submitted my efile, which was accepted. Thanks again for the response and information.

I'm aware of the $20k. This is $90k and is getting grouped in with "government pensions" in the summary. I've beat the 2025 file against the 2024 file and all the components of the 1099-R are entered as they were last year (with slightly different numbers obviously). It is coming up with 401k RMDs and a private corporate pension as exempt from NYS taxes. Having read the tax code I also confirmed this is incorrect. I believe this is a bug. Apparently, there isn't a place to report suspected bugs.
There is a specific question in the NY interview for "who paid this pension." You might try deleting the 1099-R and then entering it again, paying careful attention to that question.
You can call customer support and they can do a screen share to look at your file with you.
Lastly, if deleting and re-entering does not fix it, you can go to the help or support menu and select "send file to agent." This uploads an anonymous version of your file to tech support and gives you a token number. Post the token number here and I can try and see if a moderator will look at it.

Why IP Pin input not part of the automated progression in inputing your information? The place to input one's IP Pin is hidden. How is one supposed to guess that my IP Pin is put under "Federal taxes" ->"Other Tax Situations" -> "Other Return Info"? Come on, it got to made easier than that?!!

You will need to amend your 2024 tax return. Here is some more information on filing amendments: How to File an Amended Tax Return with the IRS
Even though you already paid the 10% early withdrawal penalty, there is still regular income tax, interest (currently 7% annually, but can update quarterly) and penalties (.5% per month).
You can contact your 401(k) provider to obtain a copy of the 1099-R. Most offer an online portal where you can obtain it.

It says "Depreciation and Amortization will be ready by February." Hopefully turbo tax is better with numbers than it is with English.

No, you cannot put stuff you forgot to enter last year on your 2025 tax return. You can, however, amend your 2024 tax return to enter them.
Wait until your original return has been fully processed before you amend, and make sure you have saved a pdf of the original return before you amend. (If you do not save it as a pdf, the amended return will overwrite the original, and the original will be lost forever)
https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/amend-change-correct-return-already-filed/L4VjJ9BA2_US_en_US?uid=m76mq6z2
Use a mailing service like certified mail to track so you will know it was received since you will have a long wait.
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.
You can watch for information here:
https://www.irs.gov/filing/wheres-my-amended-return
You will need the 1099R----get it from the custodian of the 401k.

I have a small retirement loan outstanding, used to help pay for a kitchen remodel (5 year term, I am making payments of course). I also have some money available each month for Roth contributions. Should I instead pay the loan off faster? The loan is from a pre-tax account, if that is important.
