If returning to the Federal 1040 income tax return did not change the selection to a 'qualified pension', consider removing the pension and re-entering.   In TurboTax, in the Hawaii state income tax return, at the screen Pension Deduction Summary, the Hawaii pension deduction was calculated.  The deduction is reported on the Hawaii form N-11 line 13.   Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS), states that certain kinds of pensions, whether paid by public or private employers, are not subject to the Hawaii income tax.   Hawaii allows a subtraction for qualifying pension distributions from:   Pension or annuity distributions from a public retirement system (such as Federal civil service annuity, military pension, state or county retirement system, and Distributions from a private employer pension plan received upon retirement if the employee did not contribute to the pension plan.

Hello, Thanks for your responds,   I answered both questions, but Turbotax still asks me the question about my prior lifetime contributions. So can I just guess my number, since there is no way I will ever find out the exact number, since I rolled over money and changed banks. Meaning what happens if I put in less then I contributed or more. Since I am over 59 1/2 will there be any penalty later for me ?  Thank you again.

Thanks for your assistance @MonikaK1! Seriously not trying to belabour this topic. I get what you are saying--I just need to know if entering a number into "Other Withholding"/1b on the CA State form, does that equate to actual dollars? E.g. entering 72 = $72 fewer CA state taxes withheld each paycheck? In this example, my total allowances on the form would be 74. (2 for total dependents + 72 Other)   I will check out the link as well.
It is too late to do this by e-filing. Can I file "by paper" and regular mail past the three-year deadline after filing 2022 (April 15, 2023)?
Thank you very much!

@ Bobbo00 wrote: That does not exist. The only choices I see under Deductions & Credits are Property (real estate) taxes; Medical Expenses; Deductions and credits summary. You're adding on to someone else's thread without much explanation.   So I'll assume you are likewise wanting to get to the section to enter estimated taxes paid for 2025.     I'm suspicious that you may be using Online TurboTax.   If so, when you use the left column tab for "Deductions & Credits", does it take you to a page that says "Your Tax Breaks?"   If so, that will show you only the tax break topics you have worked on.  Lower down on that page should be a link for something like "Show more tax breaks" or "Show all tax breaks".   Then that page will expand, and you should a full list of "Tax break" topics, where you can find the topic "Estimate and Other Income Taxes Paid" and then subtopic "Estimated Tax Payments."   Or you can use the following shortcut navigation to get to the right section in Online TurboTax:   With the return open, go to the left menu column and click on TAX TOOLS, then the subtab TOOLS. In the Tools Center choose the blue button Topic Search. In the topic search line enter the phrase estimated tax payments without quotes. Make the selection in the list (it may already be highlighted), and either double-click it or click the GO button. Next screen is Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid. Expand the section Estimated Tax Payments. Choose the appropriate category and tax year you are reporting (Federal, state, local) and click START or Revisit. NOTE:  Before filing, make sure your Federal estimated tax payments correctly show on the Form 1040, Line 26, and that any state estimated tax payments (if applicable) show up on your state return.
Are you referring to a state form or a Federal form?  If it is a state form, what state are you referring to?  Please clarify.

If you have received a CP05 notice, it means that the IRS is holding your refund to verify your income, withholding, or tax credits. It does not necessarily mean that you made an error on your tax return.    In general, you do not have to do anything right away. You should wait 60 days for the review to be completed. Only respond if requested to. After 60 days, if you haven't received your refund or a follow-up letter, you can call the IRS.    You can call them at telephone number: (800) 830-5084.    The IRS will send this notice when your W-2 or Form 1099 information from your employer does not instantly match their records.   You can check your entries by gathering your  income documents (W-2s, 1099s) and comparing them to your tax return to make sure they match what you reported.   If you have received this notice but didn't file a tax return, someone may have used your identity. Complete Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit and mail it immediately.     Click here for I got a CP05 notice from the IRS   Click here for Understanding your CP05 notice   Click here for What to Do if You Get an IRS Notice Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.

After you enter your 1099-R, TurboTax will ask you follow-up questions.  You will select that your distribution was transferred directly to a charity on the Do any of these situations apply to you? Screen.   If you've already entered your 1099-R, go back and delete the 1099-R that was a QCD and re-enter it. Also, check your birthdate under the My Info Section to ensure that your correct birthyear is entered since you must be 70 & 1/2 or older to make a Qualified Charitable Donation (QCD).   Refer to the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter my 1099-R? for navigation instructions.   The full amount of the distribution reported on your Form 1099-R will be on line 4a (IRA Distributions) of your Form 1040 or 1040-SR. The taxable amount reported on Line 4b will be the total distribution less the QCD amount and will have "QCD" entered next to it.   Refer to the TurboTax Help article What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution? for more information.   Estimated tax payments that you paid towards your 2025 federal or state taxes will be entered in the Deductions & Credits Section of TurboTax. Follow the instructions below for TurboTax Online: Go to the Deductions & Credits Section  Select Estimates and Other Income Taxes Paid Select Start under  estimated tax payments Select Start next to the type of estimated tax payments that you made.  For TurboTax Desktop: For TurboTax Desktop: Go to Federal Taxes  Go to Deductions & Credits Select Estimates and Other Taxes Paid Select Start or Revisit next to the type of estimated tax payment you'd like to enter under Estimated Tax Payments. Refer to the TurboTax Help article Where do I enter my estimated tax payments? for detailed instructions.   [Edited 02/22/26| 8:58pm PST]

In TurboTax, in the Michigan state income tax return, the Pension Deduction Worksheet assigned code G (Government or Public pension) to a pension distribution reported on an IRS form 1099-R.  The pension deduction is reported on the Michigan form MI-1040 line 13.    In the Michigan state income tax return, at the screen Retirement Income and Pension Summary, code G was assigned.   What is a Retirement and Pension Subtraction?   It is a subtraction of all eligible retirement income from your Michigan taxable income.   @julesjag

Have you been able to enter yours and your wife's SSA-1099 information into TurboTax?   If yes, then I think you should be able to update the Canadian form and use: "delete the form (trashcan) in the Canadian Pension area...but DO NOT Continue out of that page.   Just jump to another area entirely by clicking a different section selection in the menu...like click on Deductions&Credits". You can then click on Federal Review and see if there are any errors. If no errors, you should be able to go to the next section of your tax return and continue using TurboTax.   I you were not able to enter your SSA-1099s then you are probably correct that a TurboTax update with a proper fix to this problem will be needed.
