Did you look at Schedule !-A to see the computation?  If your Modified Adjusted Gross income is more than $175,000 ($250,000 if filing jointly), you lose this deduction.

I'm trying to properly account for medical costs when distributions from an HSA are involved, including distributions from prior years.  Here is an example: My total medical costs for 2025 were $17,000 ($15,000 were not reimbursed, $2,000 were reimbursed in 2025 via my HSA).  I had total distributions of $2,700 ($2,000 were related to 2025 costs and $700 from 2024 costs). Based on that info what should the answer be for "Total Deductible Medical Costs" line 14 of the Medical Costs Worksheet (which flows to line 1 of Schedule A)? Thank you.

When does the 1040X file get created by Ttax? I am using the desk top download version of the software. I am in my previously accepted 2023 1040 form and have clicked the "amend return" button (from "Other Tax Situations"), so the refund amount has been set to 0, which is correct. Does the 2023 1040X file get created only once I close out/save this new return?  (While I'm still editing the accepted 1040 form the name displayed for the file is still the old name so I am reluctant to save it, afraid that it will wipe out the accepted file.) Can I just choose to save it and then it will be newly named 1040X?
Did me the same way even got an advance that went to my account but had a paper check mailed out as well. Ftb said I chose that option,,,NEVER
Thank you. No because I  already filed and the application failed to add the 6K deduction on my return.  I lost  about 1100  which I  hope will get back once I  file an addendum

Hi Dave,   I live abroad and have several friends who have the exact same issue.  Turbotax Desktop Home and Business is calculating a huge amount of AMT that we do not owe.     I spent 90 minutes on the phone with TT yesterday with a product expert, but she could not help.  I then paid $60 for Live Assist and requested a call back.  Unfortunately, TT cannot call international numbers.  So I am stuck.   I have pinpointed the exact line number on Form 1116 AMT where there is a glitch.     There must be thousands of taxpayers living abroad who will benefit from a prompt solution.     Please help us with this issue.   Thank you.
I can’t file my taxes if I can’t change my email

I ran into a similar situation today using Turbotax Premier Desktop 2025.    During the entry of information in TurboTax  there was a question about having any Foreign accounts and the answer provide was NO.    When running the Federal review I had to answer questions on Schedule B about foreign accounts and trusts. I do not have any and have double checked all data input 2x for possible errors and there are none.   In looking over Schedule B Part III it says you must complete this part if you a) have over $ 1500 of taxable interest or ordinary dividends (I do not) b) had a foreign account (I did not) or c)received distributions from or were a grantor of or a transferor to a foreign account (again a No)   Lines 7a and 8 are the ones that had to have NO selected. Any idea why this might be happening ?
You're welcome.  I'm glad it helped.  Good luck.

Thank you! What is still puzzling me is that this is royalty from essentially intellectual property (reported on a 1099-misc) and that entering the information using this approach seemed like it was more geared to real estate royalties. When I declared that this was a Royalty (not using Other) and then marked it as not a QBI then the data flowed to Schedule E and line 8 of the 1040.  I initially tried declaring it Other it and it wanted rental information which is not what this is. So for now it looks like the royalty information got where it needs to be although the the path was not intuitive given that it was reported on the 1099-Misc. Have a good weekend!

Hello,    I am having this issue. I have removed the form and entered it in manually multiple times and also tried uploading an image of the document. Every time it is changing the state to Indiana when it should be Arkansas. I have verified that the correct zip code is on the 1098-T form with the link provided in previous posts. The zip code on the 1098-T form matches the zip code for Clarksville, AR. However, it is still changing it to Clarksville, IN. I have looked up the zip code for Clarksville, IN and it is not even close to the zip code on my 1098-T. How do I fix this issue? I have tried clearing the caches. I don't want to restart everything completely as I have already paid the fee for filing my taxes and it is not a guarantee my issue will be fixed.

Supposedly amending will open on February 19.    However, you should wait for the IRS to fully process the original return, and first receive your refund (if applicable) before amending.   In the meantime, do not make any changes in the original return.   It has to start off exactly like it was filed when you begin the amending process.   If you amend a Federal return, you may also have to amend the state return.

Thanks for the answer mesquitebean. I was using tables from Morgan Stanley that give income bracket steps that give a percentage to  calculate the tax over the previous step. So it's linear rather than the IRS tables which as you stated are in $50 steps. The extra penny that doesn't show up in the rounded $82,350 put me into the next bracket which costs me $11. I was more worried about the software than the $11 so thanks for setting me straight.
Been waiting for weeks.  Just filed it all on FreeTaxUSA.  Just as simple, they actually have their stuff ready on time, cheaper, and they don't even lobby against us! TurboTax has gone to crap
I filed my 2024 NY federal and state returns. I then received a W2 form from a job i forgot i worked at in 2024.
