@sking10 Since taxes were withheld, he should be receiving a W-2 from the employer.
He can file his own tax return to get a refund of the taxes withheld. Make sure that he indicates on his tax return that he can be claimed as a dependent.

My teenage son made around $4500 in 2025 for which he received one lumpsum payment and the paystub shows taxes were withheld. Would the best case in this be file his taxes to get the refund back since what he earned is considered below the threshold? Anything else I should consider? Thanks!

If you sold an item for less than you paid for it, you did not make any money on the sale. You have a loss. When you sell a personal item at a loss, and you did not get a 1099-K, you do not report the sale on your tax return. There is no form to fill out. You just don't mention the sale at all.
A loss on the sale of a personal item is not deductible.

When I print out my final 2025 W-2 and W-3 forms, the forms show year 2024. Interestingly enough, my 1099-NEC forms show year 2025. Is that supposed to be that way? Thanks, Erik

I don't believe that is accurate. @sockfight-1 wrote, " (Assuming the home is a rental for all of 2026)" and, if that's the case, then 100% of the expenses paid in 2026 are rental expenses and can be deducted (subject to the passive loss rules).

@RLPerch Depends on when you bought and installed. Regular updates were issued in early Dec, but none on Christmas week or New Year's week. We are all waiting for an expected update overnight on 5 or 6 January...so check 7 Jan. .....but perhaps some programming update disaster will delay it all until late in the week or even the week after.

And if you did have overtime.....they just meant that the Overtime entry area will be ready later. So you will likely have to revisit that W-2 area later.....when you actually get your real W-2. Do not file until the end of January at the earlies....to file any earlier just invites a tax filing disaster that will be difficult for YOU to fix. Mid-Feb or early March is safer.

I finally got my problem resolved. After working my way through Intuit's a.i. response algorithms, I finally reached a live person. Then after having my called cancelled by the first two, the third tech support person knew her stuff. It turned out to be a corrupted CC+ file. Once this was replaced, everything is working fine.

The software is not yet ready for the tax law changes regarding overtime, so you will have to wait for the update.

If you used desktop software downloaded/installed from a CD to your own computer, then the tax files are stored locally on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive. They are not stored online. If you cannot recover them due to a hard drive failure, etc. you can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $30 an actual copy of your tax return.

SAVE YOUR TAX RETURNS !
EVERY year before mid-October you should save a copy of your tax return as a pdf and print a copy of it for your records. That way you will not be searching online frantically when you need it for a lender, FAFSA forms, your next tax return, etc.

NOTE: TurboTax and the IRS save returns for seven years. Returns older than seven years are purged.
