Merci !

If you are using a TurboTax Desktop program, you can do this by clicking on "File" that is in the top left of your TurboTax screen (in the black bar that goes across the very top of the screen (You will see File, Edit, View, Tools, Online and Help).  To save the return you are in, you will select "File" then select "Save."  To start a new return, you will  select "File" and then "New Tax Return".   If you are using TurboTax Online it automatically saves your progress after every screen change and when you sign out. Make sure to select "Sign Out" when you exit your return.   To start a new tax return using TurboTax Online you will have to create another Online Account with a unique username.   For additional information:      How Do I Switch From TurboTax Online to TurboTax Desktop?   How many tax returns can I file with TurboTax?   {Edited 02/17/2026|12:35 PST} @user17712674723
That is an inheritance that does not have to be reported on your federal income tax return.   You may have a deduction for mortgage interest if you itemize deductions, however.

You probably answered something incorrectly in MY INFO.   Go back to MY INFO, click the child’s name  and go through all of the interview questions carefully and slowly.  Read every screen top to bottom.     Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number.    Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2025 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.   If your dependent was a full-time college student, make sure you were careful on the MY INFO screen for “Uncommon situations” and that you indicated there that they were a student.   Have you entered income from working in 2025?  If not,  you will not receive an income tax refund based on having dependent children.     The maximum amount of the child tax credit is now $2200 per child; the refundable “additional child tax credit” amount is $1700.   In order to get that credit, you have to have income from working.   Take the amount you earned from working.   Subtract $2500.   Multiply the rest by 15%.  That is the additional child tax credit per child that you canget—- up to the maximum of $1700 per child.   If the amount you earned from working was low, you will not get the full $1700 per child.    If your child is older than 16 at the end of 2025, you do not get the CTC.  But you may still get the non-refundable $500 credit for other dependents instead.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/taxation/child-tax-credit/L2lNhfGDl_US_en_US?uid=m68dfq2u   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/taxation/additional-child-tax-credit/L6xFeMFEf_US_en_US?uid=lqnuygah https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/does-my-childdependent-qualify-for-the-child-tax-credit-or-the-credit-for-other-dependents     And for the Earned Income Credit—-   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-credits-deductions/qualifications-earned-income-credit-eic-eitc/L7w4BFP32_US_en_US?uid=m62rmz09 https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit/use-the-eitc-assistant   https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p596.pdf   Look at your 2025 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received   PREVIEW 1040 https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-return/preview-turbotax-online-return-filing/L77WCkvnu_US_en_US?uid=m681fkhr   Child Tax Credit line 19 Credit for Other Dependents line 19 Earned Income Credit line 27 Additional Child Tax Credit line 28

Assuming you are asking because of an underpayment of estimated taxes penalty, your 2024 tax liability is Line 24 of your 2024 Form 1040.   It is the total amount of federal income tax you owed for 2024 — not what you paid, and not your refund.    You avoid an underpayment penalty this year if you paid in at least:    90% of your 2025 tax liability  OR 100% of your 2024 tax liability  (110% if your 2024 AGI was over $150,000) Withholding is treated as paid evenly throughout the year — even if it was late.   Estimated payments are credited by quarter and can trigger penalties if uneven.   If your current year total tax minus the amount of tax you paid through withholding is less than $1,000, you are not required to pay the underpayment penalty and do not need to complete Form 2210, Underpayment of Estimated Tax.       Different rules apply if at least two-thirds of your income is from farming or fishing.  What are federal estimated taxes?
To enter estimated tax paid in 2025  Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Estimates

If box 2a is blank and box 2b is checked, the taxable portion of your distribution is not determined, and TurboTax will ask you questions to calculate the taxable portion. Refer to the TurboTax article Is my distribution nontaxable if Box 2a on my 1099-R is 0 or blank? for additional information   Your RMD isn't reported on your Form 1099-R, it's reported on your Form 5498 that you would have received last year. If you haven't received your Form 5498, contact your plan administrator.    Review the TurboTax articles Why don't I have an RMD listed on my 1099-R?  and What is an RMD? for more information.
Did this ever get resolved? I am experiencing the exact same issue with TX desktop deluxe version.  I've tried every trick I know and does not keep the explanation as best I can tell.

Can you please provide more information about your problem? What is the exact error message that you are getting? Are you using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online?
Turbo Tax will not let me e-file because it is saying I didn't E-file last year, but I did. Is this Turbo taxes way of forcing me to upgrade?
