Thanks again, @dmertz . I'm filing MFJ and my AGI will not exceed $250k, so I'm not sure I need to be concerned about NIIT, or doing the reverse entry in form 8960? Also, I'm actually using TT Desktop/Windows, but for some reason the Community web app won't let me update my post to reflect it. It also appears that someone (or a bot) move my post to a different community and tagged it as TT Online, unfortunately.

Make sure that he indicates on his tax return that he can be claimed as a dependent. I received his W-2. Is it recommended to file both the tax returns - his and ours' (married filing jointly) - at the same time, or is it ok to file his first and ours' few weeks later?

After having my RE license with Berkshire Hathaway for the last 12 years, I just realized they were doing this to me. I'm actively looking to move my license with another brokerage. I'm disgusted with what has been done to me and how much it looks like tax fraud, although they claim it is not.

I believe there is a huge glitch in TurboTax 2025 Mississippi Form 80-160. I had filed a non-resident Louisiana income tax form because I work in Louisiana but live in Mississippi. I have completed the Louisiana tax first in TurboTax, per the instructions, then completed Mississippi tax which should have populated the correct numbers in the MS Form 80-160. However, it seems incorrect numbers were populated. 1st and 2nd screenshot is my Louisiana filings which has $73,439 as my LA adjusted gross income and my LA standard deduction amount of $25,000. 3rd screenshot is the MS Form 80-160, in Column 3 it has the amount of $48,439 as my LA total income and taxable income. I believe this amount should be $73,439 and it should the amount of $25,000 for my LA standard deduction. How can I change this manually since I am unable to change it thru the automated screens? I have already deleted both state form and restarted them in hopes it would correct itself, unfortunately it did not work. I am not sure if this worksheet would make a difference in the amount due to Mississippi, but I would like to have it corrected in case the IRS audits me. After all I did pay for the TurboTax software to do my taxes correctly…..

I notice for rental property depreciation looks consistent from 2024 to 2025 for one of the rental properties. However, for the other rental property, 2025 decreased a lot from 2025 depreciation. It says "depreciation and amortization will be ready by February, but liekly sooner" We are updating this section for latest tax laws. How long should I wait? Will this likely change the 2025 depreciation on the strange decrease property? I am getting the same message on the first property that has the stable year after year depreciation. Just the second one looks funky.

Yes. Enter the 'total interest paid' as the amount in box 1.

When receiving a 1099-INT from the IRS, when you input it into TT, do you enter the "total interest paid" amount as box 1? Technically it does not break it down into the traditional box 1,2 etc

In TurboTax Desktop Deluxe, enter the IRS form W-2. At the screen Let's check for other situations, select the option Overtime. Click Continue.
Follow the screens to calculate the deduction or simply enter the value.
Then you will see the screen Were you an exempt employee?
You will need to declare whether you earned the overtime pay as an employee:
exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act or
non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
You must select I was not an exempt employee to qualify for the deduction.
Click on the hyperlink What's an exempt employee for direction. Exemptions from the minimum wage or overtime standards of the FSLA may also be found here.
The deduction is reported on IRS Schedule 1-A Part V lines 14 through 21. To view, select FORMS in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

From 2024? You can amend......but your father could have filed his own return claiming you months ago without waiting for you to amend. He will now have no way to file his return that claims you other than by mail, since e-filing is permanently closed for 2024 returns.
He will need to print, sign and date his return in ink, and mail it in.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
As for your own amended return---you will also have to file it by mail.

You use a form called a 1040X. You will go to MY INFO and go through the interview questions to the one that asks if someone else can claim you as a dependent. Say YES.
Use a mailing service like certified mail to track so you will know it was received since you will have a long wait.
Do not expect quick results from amending. It can take four months or more for the IRS to process an amended return.

Since you have a profit motive, it would be considered self-employment income as opposed to a hobby. Also, you earned a profit, as you received money but had no expenses, further evidence it is not a hobby. As such, the IRS would likely require you to treat is as self-employment income.
