You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.
Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed. Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.
What is the rejection code or rejection message?
If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2023 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

If you have a screen for how to receive your tax refund then you are in the File section of the program. The File link you should see on the left side of the online program screen, as noted in my second screenshot. There will also be a link for Federal which if you click on that link will cause the Deductions & Credits link and the Other Tax Situations link to become available.
And no using a tax pro will not get to the screen you need any better than you doing it yourself. This should be easily done

one requirement to avoid penalties and still pay in the minimum so you owe without penalties is to have withholding and timely estimated tax payments equal 90% of that year's tax. Further, with a timely filed prior year return you can use the overpayment to apply to next year's estimate. the major issue is knowing what your current year tax obligation will be, so you don't fall below that 90%

Yes, I have gotten that far, but what occurs is that it brings up choices on how to receive the refund. No choice to pay 2025 tax. Would a pro be able to get that screen?

So hoping you can help! Unfortunately, very long story, but basically, my daughter took out a HELOC for $45K to pay off credit cards and to purchase used car. She did not sell her home. When they went to settlement, the lender hid the fact that she had to pay back the Covid forbearance ALONG with the First Time Homebuyers help, even though she did not sell her home - still lives there - just was taking out a loan. So instead of getting $40K, she only received $6K It's been a nightmare, but basically can she deduct anything on her 2024 taxes with regards to paying off these? Thank you in advance for your time. Form 5329 is an IRS form that you fill out as part of your federal tax return. It does not have to be signed separately, but it has to be included with your tax return. If you are filing by mail, forms are supposed to be attached in a specific sequence, but it would probably okay if you put it in the envelope separately if you think you would be able to do that without your husband noticing.
One possible problem, if the Form 5329 is not attached properly, is that it could be overlooked by the person who takes your tax return out of the envelope at the IRS, or by the person who keys it into their computer system. If that happens you will get a notice from the IRS saying that you have to pay the 10% penalty. The notice would be mailed to the address on the tax return. There might be two separate notices, one to you and one to your husband.
All of this is assuming that you file the tax return by mail. If you e-file, the exception to the penalty has to be entered into the software that you use. It is also assuming that the penalty exception applies to the entire amount that you withdrew. If the exception only applies to part of the distribution, additional entries are required on the tax return.
This whole plan seems a little dicey to me. I again suggest that you talk to your divorce lawyer about making other arrangements for filing your tax return if you are not divorced by the end of the year. Your lawyer should be able to work out a plan with your husband's lawyer that would give you privacy and safety.
I want to make sure it's clear to you that you do not need the domestic abuse exception in order to take the money out of your 401(k). Subject to the rules of your particular 401(k) plan, you can take money out at any time, without giving a reason. But if you are under age 59½ you have to pay an additional 10% tax on the distribution. The exception lets you avoid the additional 10% tax.
That means that you have one other alternative, which is to just pay the 10% penalty and consider it a cost of getting divorced. Then there would be nothing on your 1099-R or your tax return to suggest that the 401(k) withdrawal was anything other than an early withdrawal.

I do but it just brings me back to where I left off when I sent in my estimated taxes for 2024. The issue that may be tangling this up is that I got an updated report from a brokerage firm after I had filed the estimated taxes and it straightened out a reporting error the broker had made which I had used to file the estimated taxes. That correction sharply reduced my actual tax liability after I had filed and made the extension payment for what I feared was the large amount. Now I want to have the excess that is present on my account applied to tax in 2025 but I am unable to get to the locations U point out that should be there. Can only a turbo tax pro get into the account to see such locations that instead of getting the refund I'm now due, that I want the 2025 tax to be paid?

While the FTB cannot directly deposit your refund into a foreign bank account, they can mail a check to your international address.
