What do you mean a dependent parent?  Are you the parent of a small child but also a dependent of your parents?  Or a dependent of a live-in partner?  More information might help.   If you are a W-2 worker and your only income is $3000, you do not need to file a return.  If you had tax withheld, you can file a return only to claim a refund of the taxes.  You can't claim your child as a dependent and you can't claim any other tax benefits.  If you do, then you can no longer be claimed as a dependent by someone else, such as your parent or partner.    If you are self-employed, you must file a return because your self-employment income is more than $400.  You will pay 15% self-employment tax (the equivalent of social security and medicare tax on a regular paycheck).   You do not have to pay income tax, but you still have to pay self-employment tax.  As long as you claim no credits or dependents on the income tax part of the return, you can still be claimed as a dependent by someone else even though you are paying self-employment tax.

Thanks, drilling into one of the data input sections on the right side of screen opened up more options. I didn't initially see the Tax Tools as I had to scroll down within the mid-section of the menu to find Tax Tools. Once there I was able to use the Tools submenu to initiate a clear/reset of my 2025 taxes. All good now.   Much appreciated!

I understand your frustration----I have macular degeneration and need large font and lots of contrast---but I have  been able to enlarge the font size and the contrast by using the settings on my own Mac.  See if this helps: Yay google ...   Change font sizes within the Fonts window on Mac In an app on your Mac, choose Format > Show Fonts or Format > Font > Show Fonts. You have not explained how you managed to file only an amended state return but did not file the original state return---I suspect that you made some sort of mistake and realized it too late, clicked on "amend" by mistake, or some such other user error.   At this point, you cannot use online TurboTax to work on a 2024 return.  Online is closed and you can only use the desktop download.   Your situation is quirky in that you mistakenly sent in an amended return and now need to prepare an original state return.    It might be easier to use the state's website and get the state forms for 2024 to prepare an original state return by hand to send in, instead of the total confusion that trying to use TT would cause now.   You will need information from your federal return in order to prepare the state return.   And...it can only be sent by mail.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0

What was the source of the $3K income you mention?   Was it self-employment income----like income received for driving to deliver DoorDash, or something similar?   If you have had any sort of self-employment income you are required to file a tax return and pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare.  Please explain the $3K.

@markob  In my test, I had to click into my 2025 preparation area on the main rt-side screen first, to get the left-side menu to open up to show the full Fed Prep menu.    If you've just barely started 2025, you might need to get some of the initial questions answered for 2025 before the full left-side menu shows.
I also use a Mac.   Have you tried going to settings-- displays  on your Mac and simply increasing the text size yourself so that when you use TT the text will be bigger?

The IRS cares about physical custody----who the child lived with for the most nights during the year.    You do not mention which parent the child lived with.    If you are the one who could have/should have claimed your daughter, then file a tax return that claims her and let the IRS sort it out.      Are you the custodial parent?  Do you have an agreement with the other parent to allow the other parent to claim them--due to divorce or that you live apart and share custody?  Did one of you sign a Form 8332?   If there is a signed 8332 then the custodial parent retains the right to file as Head of Household, get earned income credit and the childcare credit.  The non-custodial parent gets the child tax credit for children under the age of 17.  If the child is 17 or older the non-custodial parent gets the $500 credit for other dependents.   If you and the other parent have a signed agreement, you need to indicate in MY INFO that you have such an agreement.   As far as the IRS is concerned, the custodial parent is the one with whom the child spent the most nights during the tax year--at least 183 nights.         If you are a non-married couple who live together with your child, then only one of you can claim the child(ren) and the one not claiming the child does not enter anything at all on their tax return about the child.   The “sharing” of child-related credits you may have heard about is only possible between divorced or never married parents who live apart and share custody and who have a written agreement to share the credits.    The child’s SSN can only be entered on one tax return.   Any other return with the child’s SSN on it will be rejected.   If you are a family, then work out how to share the refund between yourselves.

Assuming you have logged in to the correct "Online" account that you used in prior years ...AND provided you did NOT use the "Desktop" software in the prior years.. THEN: With the recent startup of the 2025 "Online" tax software...   1) You will be required to go thru a series of personal questions in the 2025 Online software first to get that started up. 2) After you get several pages of questions into it for 2025, the "Tax Home" selection will show up in the left-side menu. 3) Only then will you be able to see (further down the main page) a selection for "Your tax returns & documents".  Clicking on that will show your prior years and allow PDF downloads of the most recent 7 prior years you want to see or save/print. _________________________________________

Yes..you can.   If you go thru the medical expenses area, there are specific places that ask about healthcare premiums you pay out-of-pocket.   You just enter the totals that you paid out-of-pocket for the premiums and any other medical expenses, and the software will determine how much of that exceeded 7.5% of your AGI, and the software will only include the excess.    Of course, that amount is only used if ALL your itemized deductions exceed the Std Deduction for for your filing status for 2025.  For MFJ and not-yet 65 for either of you, that  Std Ded is $31,500 for 2025 taxes.

Only the state can explain to you why your state refund was changed.   What does the state say?   MY STATE REFUND WAS LESS THAN I EXPECTED The state will send you a letter explaining the change.  TurboTax does not get any feedback from your state after your return is accepted, so no one at TT knows why your state refund was less.   Did you owe back taxes, child support, or student loans?  Traffic fines, etc.?     https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=m6e06um0     TurboTax provides do-it-yourself tax software.  TurboTax guarantees the calculations done by its software.   The information entered into that software is data entered by you, the user.   TurboTax cannot and does not check that information against any outside sources, so TT cannot know if you entered your information completely or correctly.   It is up to you to enter all of your information correctly and completely, and to check your tax return before you file it.  If you forget to enter some income, or enter it incorrectly, enter it in the wrong place, etc. then you may end up owing additional tax to the IRS and/or state.  TurboTax does not pay the additional tax you owe.   If TurboTax’s calculations were incorrect, and you owe penalties and/or interest, then TT will pay the penalties and interest.  The tax due is always owed by you, and must be paid by you.   If you need to enter a claim for the accuracy guarantee:   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-account-billing/submit-claim-turb...

Yes the out of pocket costs that you pay for health insurance can be entered as a medical expense if you are itemizing deductions instead of just using your standard deduction.     MEDICAL EXPENSES The medical expense deduction has to meet a rather large threshold before it can affect your return. The amount of medical (including dental, vision, etc.)  expenses that will count toward itemization is the amount that is OVER 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. You should only enter the amount that you paid in 2025—do not include any amounts that were covered by insurance or that are still outstanding.  Of course, your medical expenses plus your other itemized deductions still have to exceed your standard deduction before you will see a difference in your tax due or refund.   To enter your medical expenses go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Medical>Medical Expenses     2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS   SINGLE $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind + $2000) MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind +1600) MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500  (65 or older/legally blind + $1600) HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
