You should pay the balance due.  Since you already received the larger refund then you owe some of it back.  That's why it's showing that you owe the $100 or so.   As to why the calculation is different it is difficult to say.  Some of the income on the original return was not counted as income by the TurboTax system for some reason.   @astro46

Before I begin, we have TurboTax Premier for the desktop.   My wife and I have a joint T5 and joint T5008 this year. This earlier post states that "With TurboTax, entering a T5 that is shared between spouses is easy – you only have to enter the T5 once. If you are going to be the partner who takes care of the T5, simply enter the percentage that will be claimed by a spouse on your tax return. If you and your spouse are preparing tax returns together, TurboTax will automatically transfer the percentage each partner’s claim onto both partners’ returns."    We did this. I entered the data into my T5 and my T5008 both indicating 50% for my amount and 50% for my spouse. However, TurboTax did not transfer this information to my spouse's T5 and T5008. Those forms are still blank. Why is that?   Thanks in advance for your help!

If you want to file a joint tax return, you would include an ITIN application with your tax return and mail them both to the same address for processing.  Otherwise, the IRS issues ITINs only for identification (not for work authorization) and only if the person has a financial connection to the US, such as running a business or being married to a US person and filing a joint return.
Thank you. I don't see where the rental income would go on Schedule E. I only see "farm rental income."

You can't amend the 2023 return because it was never filed.   But you can finish the 2023 return (you will need to use the desktop software) and file it by mail.   Here is how to do that - How do I finish an unfiled TurboTax return?   When you e-file her 2024 tax return, use zero as her prior year AGI since the 2023 return was not filed.
When is this going to be fixed. I cannot finish my return?
No. California includes promotional offers in taxable income.

Stop.  You do not use "amend" to fix her rejected return.   Amending is a process you only use for a return that was filed and fully processed.  Her rejected return did not ever go to the IRS.  So do not click on anything that says "amend" for her 2023 return.  You just need to correct the information that was wrong on the 2023 return and then mail it in.  E-filing is closed; the return can only be filed by mail now, so she needs to sign and date the return, attach a copy of the W-2, and mail it in.    You will be able to access the 2023 return you started by using the exact same account and user ID that you used when you started it.   But you can no longer use online software for any further changes.       Start a 2024  return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.   Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2023 returns is now permanently closed.    Now it is too late to use online software or to e-file. If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2023 return, you now have to complete it using desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac  (not to a mobile device). Then you need to print, sign and mail it.   https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/printers-printing/finish-prior-year-return-started-turbotax-online/L9Oe4M90A_US_en_US?uid=m68tffpe   If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.   They are available from 5 a.m. to 9p.m. Pacific time daily   https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899263-what-is-the-turbotax-phone-number     If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late.  If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe.  Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.     When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

You would still list it as an investment property. You will need to decide how much your cost basis in that one acre of land was by allocating  what you paid for the entire property to that one acre of land.  Many times you can do this using your real estate tax bill which will divide the land and improvements.  You would enter the sale of the land by selecting the following: Federal Income Show More next to Investment Income Start next to Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B)  Select Other Continue through and select land for the type of investment Answer how you obtained it You will need to enter the selling price, dates and the cost basis    Note, your navigation sequence may be slightly different.  You can also use the Jump to feature by entering investment sale in the search bar at the top of the screen.

No, these amounts should be carried over from your federal return.    You would only enter capital gains reported for the specific types of investments listed below for these questions. Also, the instructions from California indicate that you would enter only capital gains that were earned in one year and distributed in a later year.     The types of Regulated Investment Companies (RIC) are as follows: ETF (Exchange Traded Fund),  REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust, UIT (Unit Investment Trust).

I filed taxes for my daughter Rainna Horn in 2023 on Turbo tax.  She only got a small refund and we didn’t realize that it never came.  This year I started to do her 2024 taxes and that’s when I realized that her 2023 taxes had been rejected.  We had received the email saying they were rejected but it went to my daughter’s email instead of mine and she never noticed it.  So we came to realize that in 2023 her W2 had the wrong social security number.  Her employer did a new w2 with the correct social security number for her 2024 taxes and I filed them.  Apparently I need to have the 2023 amended with the correct number also.  The employer says they cant give her a new w2 for 2023 and instead gave me a W-2c form and said that’s what i need to fill out.  I had gone online and tried to start the amend online.  Now Im confused as to what exactly I need to do?

Thanks for the reply.  I don't think either of us can legally file as Single at this time, despite living separately for the past few years, because our separation is informal.  We are not legally separated in the eyes of the government, since we haven't filed a legal decree, and there are penalties for filing as Single while still married and not officially divorced or separated.   We'll figure out which return should be amended based on the amount of work to re-input the other's information.  Thanks again.
Yes, remove Form 1098-T. you can't claim any education credits if you are a dependent on your parent's ax return. Your parent's can claim the education credits.
