Agreed. Windows 11 is supposed to be a security update, but it has the most un-secure features that I will not use. So did Microsoft make a deal with Intuit?? 1. I do not want my personal files moved to Windows system servers for supposed safe keeping. More likely to use their AI and come up with more BS. 2. Windows 11 forces all their AI tools. 3. Forced Windows account. 4. Etc. To bypass all the hardware requirements and minimize problems with Windows 11, you have to use a tool like "rufus", but even so, you're still stuck with Microsoft. I cancelled my subscription. I'd rather do my taxes on paper before I go to Windows 11. I'll be moving to Linux.   This is not for security, it is for Microsoft's benefit.

If someone already used your SSN on a tax return and the return was accepted by the IRS, the IRS will reject your own e-filed return.   Prepare your return and print, sign and mail it in.  The IRS will sort out the duplicate use of your Social Security number.     If you have not yet prepared the return, it is too late to use online TurboTax, but you can still use the desktop download on a full PC or Mac. DOWNLOAD (This requires a full PC or Mac—-cannot be used on a mobile device)   https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/   You can also purchase the desktop download from various retailers such as Costco, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Staples, Sam’s Club, etc. etc. etc.   This link Where can I obtain authentic TurboTax software? has a list of authorized TurboTax resellers.   When you use desktop software, there is an additional fee to e-file a state return.  You can avoid that fee if you print, sign and mail the state return.    When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.   Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

There is never a deduction for regular commuting, at the federal level or any state I know of, for employees or self-employed.    Your commute is your daily drive to and from your main place of work.  That is never deductible, even if it is long an expensive, it's your choice to work at that location so it's just ordinary non-deductible living expenses.     If you drive to other locations for temporary work, that used to be deductible but is not deductible any more at the federal level for W-2 employees.  You can still enter the deduction in Turbotax because some states will allow the deduction in some situation.  Turbotax will apply the deduction if you qualify and would benefit, but there are other limitations.  It should be on the Deductions and Credits page under work-related expenses.  You need to have accurate mileage records of your work trips such as a log with the date, time, mileage, and business purpose.  You can't include your commute.  A detailed list of rules is found in chapter 4 of publication 463. https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-publication-463   If you are self-employed, you still can't deduct your commute to and from your main place of work.  You can deduct mileage for trips to other, temporary work sites.  In some cases, your home may be your "main place of work" and you can deduct most work mileage.  This is also discussed in chapter 4.  This deduction would be under car expenses in the Self-employment-Schedule C interview.

I received an email telling me something in box twelve may be inaccurate,  I was able to locate my tax worksheet from last year and it only shows code DD, even though my W2 shows code C and D as well. I imported my W2 through my work directly, did it not transfer properly? Do I need to amend this? Or is box 12 on the worksheet only showing code DD and not the others normal?

@adityain2003 , Namaste ji   1.  What are you doing here in the USA ---   I ask because J visa based  exemption  ( article 22 of US-India tax treaty ) is applicable ONLY to  Profs./ Researchers etc. and with some conditions on type of research.  2. Generally this exemptions from US tax including application of "savings clause" is pretty much based on a two year term starting from the day the J-1 holder enters the US.   From the language in the treaty and the technical explanation thereof, one probably cannot pick and choose which part of the two years to ask for exemption.   My ref. for this is  US-India Tax Treaty -->  PUB3434 (REV. 7-1999) Technical Explanation of the Convention and Protocol Between the United States of America and the Republic of India for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion With Respect to Taxes on Income Signed at New Delhi On September 12, 1989   Is there more I can do for you ?   You can either add  to this thread or if you wish private answers you can PM me -- just NO PII ( Personally Identifiable Information).   Namaste ji   pk

@EverydayItemizer wrote: And yes, couldn't agree more that import INTO TurboTax would be amazing! From what I've heard, it's on the roadmap, but agree this is a must. Also, in addition to what has been posted in other threads, the product you mentioned, and for which a link was provided, appears to be an iPhone app and not everyone who uses (used, actually) ItsDeductible has or used an iPhone in conjunction with the program.    I realize that they will consider other platforms if there is sufficient demand but that's cold comfort for ItsDeductible users who currently use other platforms in conjunction with ItsDeductible.
I Love It’s Deductible! And rely on it and recommend it to others regularly!  How extremely disappointing!  Intuit strikes again!  Why can’t they leave well enough alone.  This tool is important!

Hello:   I am selling old Nike and Reebok shoes on Stock X.  Some of these a small profit is made and some are at a significant loss. This is neither a hobby nor a business.  I read a prior thread indicated if noted as a "hobby" the gross amount of the sale is utilized and the full amount over 2,500.00 (for 2025) will be taxed.  As I have lost money on many of these shoes this does not seem to make any sense that they would be taxed. Please advise as we are rapidly approaching 2026 and your response may determine if I continue to sell on these 3rd party platforms or need some other way to move these shoes out.   I look forward to your response.   Jeff

You probably don’t have to but including the forms won’t be detrimental in any way.
