"Accepted" and "approved" are not the same thing.   “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.   TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.      FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE: https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund How it works Where's My Refund shows your refund status: Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown. Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.

When you requested your extension you were supposed to pay your estimated tax due.  Did you enter the payment you made into your tax return?  Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes    Beyond that---just prepare and file your return.  The IRS already knows you have an extension.  You do not enter anything about that on the Form 1040.
How do I enter this information in Turbo Tax?

First, how many days were you a New York resident?  If you were there for more than half of the year then New York considers you a resident for income tax purposes.   Additionally, for those who are part year residents, New York uses all of your income to figure out what your tax rate would have been if you were a resident, and then charges you that tax rate on the income that you do have taxed by them. Not the nicest way to handle taxes but that is how they do it.   @KI2024

You will have to manually adjust this amount on the Massachusetts return.  Massachusetts follows the same rules for taxable rollovers as the federal government does so you just need to go through the Massachusetts return and adjust the taxable amount of the rollover to zero to match the federal amount.  Massachusetts gets a copy of the federal return when you file so it will recognize the correct amount as long as you enter it.   @thuyh1121

In order to adjust the numbers on your 2210 you need to go through the section on reducing your underpayment penalties.   At the top of your federal tax return click on "Other Tax Situations"  Then scroll down to "Additional Tax Payments" and click start or update next to "Underpayment Penalties".  Then you will go through and annualize your income so that the underpayment penalties can be reduced or eliminated.  Once you have finished with this section the error should be removed.   @nitramxxx

ok thanks for the clarification, because from the above, from others it seems that the answer is No. At least we have both now 😁
