Just in case some random data bit gets trapped in there. A safety precaution - if I don't say it, that will be the problem 🙂 We know that imported data sometimes is an issue.

2f is included in 2a. It does not apply to US Citizens. 2f apply only to foreign persons and entities whose income maintains its character when passed through or distributed to its direct or indirect foreign owners or beneficiaries. It is generally treated as effectively connected to a trade or business within the United States. See the instructions for your tax return.     if you are a nonresident alien, you should be filing form 1040-NR, which Turbotax doesn't do

A clarification on this question: I can see that 1040X is available on the "forms" dropdown menu of the desktop version. But when you start the amending process, you select 'amend a return.' Next, you see a list showing sections of the tax document, and you choose "update" for the section that needs amending (in my case, adding 1098T information). It says "Do you want to enter your higher education expenses." When you select "yes" it says "you can't claim an education credit" because "you didn't enter a valid first name"...but when you go back to add that information, the system sees this as a new return. When I tried just entering my name without the other information, it calculates it on a 1040X, but it as if I have no income at all and the calculations are not accurate.

I heard from friends that overseas real estate should be declared on taxes, but I do not understand why it has to be done or how to go about declaring it.    I am a green card holder living in US. I am also a citizen of Kazakhstan and own two flats in that country.  I do NOT get any income from those flats. I owned those flats for years, before even coming to the US. If I need to declare ownership of those flats, who determines their value and based on what?  How would I declare ownership in TurboTax? Thank you!

Line 6a asks if the loan originated after 2006.  The answer would be "Yes" if the loan was taken in 2007 or later.    Did you enter a date in Box 3 on the 1098? If yes, what is the date?

I read the Turbo Tax posted IRA recharacterization article (from the Turbo Tax Pop-up attachment). Is it still up-to-date? Page 11 of Page 15, "On the IRA Contributions Worksheet, enter the $4,000 original contribution to the Roth IRA on line 21". line 21, it is not for contributions (but for K-1). Also, what is the Form 1099-R replica? Can anyone help? thank you.
