You should amend your return (if you already filed) to remove any child's w-2.   If your child(ren) have their own w-2s, they report those on their own tax returns.     If you have not filed your return, search for W-2 and use the jump to w-2 link to get back to your W-2 summary where you can remove his w-2 from your return.   If your return was already filed and accepted, see this TurboTax FAQ for amending instructions.

I got T3 capital gains (Box 21) and also T5008 realized capital losses. All amounts were entered correctly and show up on Schedule 3 as they should, but got the Error Code 95365 when I tried to netfile.  I made all the changes suggested by Turbo Tax to remove Box 52 and make sure Box 53 equal to Box 21, as well as the rounding suggestions. Tried to netfile and got the same error code every time. I did what CRA message says to override T936 Line 61480 and put in a value equal to Line 17600 of Schedule 3.  Tried to netfile and return was not accepted unless I remove the override.    For whatever reasons, the last time I tried to netfile, I got CRA message that my account is locked and I need to contact CRA.  So be careful not to try too many times. I don't know if this is Turbo Tax netfile issue or CRA issue. Still don't know how to unlock my account, as CRA chat box only sent me the link how to contact CRA, and my line was cut off every time after being on hold for over an hour trying to call CRA.

When using TurboTax, the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion causes issues for me every year.  It completely messed up my return this year and now I'm doing amendments.  If it doesn't end up changing I'm just going to have to go to a CPA from now on.  It's creating more of a dead ache than anything.  If you meet the below information, then you don't have to meet the normal abode or physical requirements to exclude the income you earned while there.   IR-2018-173, August 24, 2018 Certain U.S. citizens or resident aliens, specifically contractors or employees of contractors supporting the U.S. Armed Forces in designated combat zones, may now qualify for the foreign earned income exclusion.  The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, enacted in February, changed the tax home requirement for eligible taxpayers, enabling them to claim the foreign earned income exclusion even if their “abode” is in the United States. The new law applies for tax year 2018 and subsequent years.  This means that these taxpayers, if eligible, will be able to claim the foreign earned income exclusion on their income tax return for 2018 when they file. Under the exclusion, taxpayers can choose to exclude their foreign earned income from gross income, up to a certain dollar amount.

I recently started doing Roth in place conversion using my work place 401k account. I performed automatic Roth in place conversion after contributing after tax money into my 401k. Then periodically I rolled over the money from Roth 401k to Roth IRA. So I received 2 1099-R forms (one with code G and one with code H) which I did not report in my taxes - both have taxable amount as "0". In addition I received another 1099-R form when I rolled over my old 401k account from my previous employer to my current one. I did not report this either- again $0 taxable income   will I potentially get audited for failing to report 1099-R forms even though the taxable income is $0. Should I file an amended tax return ? I have never been audited in my tax paying years in the US. Pls advise next course of action.

You probably have forms or schedules not included in the Free version as part of your tax return.  You must have a Simple form 1040 return only (no schedules except for Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and student loan interest) in order to qualify.    ~37% of taxpayers qualify to file with TurboTax Free Edition.  Click here to see what forms are included.   How to downgrade in TurboTax Online -  Downgrade back to free to see what caused the upgrades.   Also, see How to Review your Fees.   If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons, see Help Removing Fees.

Review this article to see how to best report your family's 1095-A.  I'm on my parents' 1095-A form. What do I do on my return?    Who is the 1095-A issued to and are you a dependent on a parent's return?    When you share a policy, you can divide the amounts however you all decide, but it has to total 100% between the applicable returns.   You or your parent can claim 100% or you can divide it.

If I let TT fill out Schedule 3 line 8 I get an error on 8A saying 8A doesn't equal 8B plus 8C.  It says "please go back and review your entries to ensure the allocation of income and adjustments are correct for Georgia and other state sources."  But the Data Source for Line 4B says Line 4A less line 4C.  Yet 4B does NOT equal Lina 4A less 4C.  If I overwrite it so it does then the error goes away. I feel like this is a bug?

Your resident state taxes all of your income.   If you don't live in GA, you are a nonresident of GA and only pay tax on GA sourced income.   Your resident state will generally give you a credit for taxes paid to other states.    Do I have to file tax returns in more than one state?
Planning to move, Live and work in TX or TN(option). Owning home in GA. Will rent GA home. GA taxes only home rental income or entire wages from moving to state? Please advise. Thanks

@abhi1024 ,   (a) alright -- based on the days present that you have described,  you are a Resident for Tax purposes for 2024.  Your  resident start date is the first day t of the year hat you were legally present in the US. (b) For 2024 , your  Sept.30 onwards  till the end of the year you are a resident.  And therefore your W-2 for 2024 should be covering all your earnings from employment  for that period. (c) I don't see why your Indian  tax return should include  any earnings from the USA ----  " For the purpose of calculating India Tax, my employer is adding all US paychecks from October 2024 to March 2025. Is this correct? Do I need to pay taxes in India for my paychecks in US." Are the two entities -- the US employer and the Indian employer one and the same  or one is wholly owned by the other ?   Your Indian ITR should only  cover earnings in India till the day you left the country --no? OR are they using the treaty condition of 183 days to be a resident ?   That is not applicable here because  US uses  SPT. And once you are a resident,  only one party can tax you ( generally ).   AS you can see I am confused  as to your employer.  Please tell more.
when I filled my tax return I put learner permit in driver license place when they ask my ID . Is it ok ? And where should I go and check if I put right learner permit numbers in my tax return ?

DianeW777, your advice appears to differ from the IRS instructions for form 8959. The "Who Must File" paragraph begins: You must file Form 8959 if one or more of the following applies to you. •Your Medicare wages and tips on any single Form W-2 (box 5) are greater than $200,000 (followed by more reasons not of interest to me.) I questioned my employer for withholding beginning at $200K when the threshold for owing the tax is $250K for MFJ, and they explained they are required to begin withholding at $200K for everyone because they cannot be certain you will still be married on 12/31 and file MFJ. Therefore, form 8959 is necessary to get credit for the excess Medicare tax withheld.
