It sounds like you are well aware of the many new rules for MD which include the new state phase-out for itemized deductions. MD TY25 changes pages 3-4 show the chart of income vs itemized deductions. I think you are saying that you need to do a standard deduction due to your income and not seeing how to do it online. I also do not see that option but feel the program should be that smart.   I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. Please notify me by adding @AmyC to your response. If I discover a solution, I will reply. Otherwise, it will be moved on to an investigation team. You can send a token to me by following the directions below: TurboTax Online: Sign into your online account. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.  A drop-down will appear. Select Tools  On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.” This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response. TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions: Open your return. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response. @tara2223  or @user17724076434

There's something I can do about it, I'm going to complain to Turbotax and get my 5th efile or a refund of my purchase price for the software this year.  I don't give up that easy.  Maybe others would or I should but it's the principle of the thing.  I'm retired, I'll make the time.

If you worked in Kansas as a nonresident, and had Kansas taxes withheld, then you file a Kansas tax return to reconcile the taxes you already paid with the taxes the state determines are owed. The amounts withheld from your wages would have been entered at the time you entered your W-2 in the Federal return and should be accounted for in the Kansas return. The taxes withheld may or may not have been enough to cover the Kansas taxes owed.   Kansas has no tax reciprocity agreements with any other states, meaning employees working in Kansas but living elsewhere—including Missouri—must pay income taxes to Kansas.   Once you prepare your nonresident Kansas return, you may be able to claim a credit for taxes paid to Kansas on your resident state return.   See this TurboTax tips article for more information about paying taxes when you live and/or work in more than one state.

You’re correct—TurboTax doesn’t support Schedule W (Apportionment Worksheet), which Delaware uses to verify why you’re only paying tax on part of your W-2 wages. Without this form, the state may view the lower wages as an error and could send a bill for the difference. Since TurboTax can’t create or e-file Schedule W (PIT-SCW), you’ll need to use other methods to stay compliant.   The Problem: The "Documentation Gap" When you manually change the "Delaware Source Income" in the software, TurboTax correctly changes the tax math, but it fails to generate the supporting Schedule W. If you e-file, the state of Delaware receives a return where your wages on Line 1, Column B (Delaware Source) are lower than Column A (Federal), with no Schedule W attached to explain the "Out-of-State Days."   The Solution: The "Print and Mail" Method Since the form is required but not in the software, you must file a Paper Return. E-filing is not a viable option for you this year if you want to be fully compliant with the documentation requirements.   Step 1: Download the Standalone Form Download the official Delaware Form PIT-SCW (Schedule W) directly from the Delaware Division of Revenue website.  Complete the "Days Worked Outside" section manually. Since you are working from home due to employer space constraints, this meets the "necessity of the employer" requirement (as opposed to personal convenience). Step 2: Prepare the TurboTax Return   Continue using TurboTax to calculate the correct wages (the 40% as you described).  In the Delaware interview, when it asks for your Delaware source wages, enter the amount calculated on your manual Schedule W. Do NOT E-file. When you reach the "How do you want to file?" screen, select "File by Mail." Step 3: Assemble the Mailing Packet Delaware is strict about the order of attachments. Your envelope should contain:   Form PIT-NON (The main return printed from TurboTax). Schedule W (The form you completed manually). A Copy of your W-2. A Copy of your PA Return (Delaware requires this for non-residents to verify income sourcing).  One Final Compliance Tip: The Employer Letter While Schedule W is the primary form, Delaware auditors often request a letter from your employer for work-from-home claims. Since your reason is "insufficient office space," having a brief signed memo from your HR or manager stating that "remote work is a requirement of the position due to facility capacity" will make your return bulletproof against a future "convenience of the employer" challenge.

TurboTax desktop will not let me efile my California return.   Form 540 line 12 requires input from a W-2.     I am retired, so have no W-2, no employer income. How do I complete form 540 line 12, so as to allow efile? Wage income is input as zero on the federal return, but not picked up by the California return. Never experienced this before even though my returns have been similar for years.

If you prepared your 2024 state taxes using TurboTax Online, and you have already signed in to your TurboTax account this year, you should be able to find the 2024 state return as follows:   There are two ways to get your prior-year returns:   1. Select Documents from the menu, use the dropdown menu to choose the tax year you want, and select Download tax PDF.   2. On Tax home, scroll down and select Your tax returns & documents. Select the year you want and select Download/print return (PDF).   If the year you're looking for isn't there, it might be in a different account. Go here to find all of your accounts. One of them should have the return you're looking for. See this help article for more information.   If you used a TurboTax Desktop product, the returns from last year should be saved on your device.

Update:  I believe I have identified the issue and have resolved it.   In looking more closely at the two 1099-DIVs (using Form View) which were not being handled correctly I saw there is an additional row at the bottom of Box 12 which says "State where the dividends were earned.  Postal Code (such as "CA" or "NY").   That row was marked as OR even though above in box 12 was both OR and XX sources.   I changed this to be XX and it has resolved the issue.
