On a Mac, simply quit and reopen TurboTax. If there are any updates, you'll be prompted to download them. OR With your desktop program open, go up to the very top left corner of your Mac screen. Next to the little apple---click on TurboTax and then choose "Check for Updates" from the drop down menu.    Here's an old screen shot, should be in the same place or similar.

I have same issue and logging into the IRS to update the information has got me in a loop of verifying my information and uploading my drivers license. The loop keeps taking me back to the start.   TurboTax should be the one fixing this issue since they caused it. I paid good money to get my taxes completed correctly with up to date IRS rules and regulations.   This is delaying my return, I am unemployed and need the money. Will TurboTax refund some of my file fees due to THEIR error?

I went ahead and exited without saving, So unfortunately lost my federal input and had to start over as a result. Restarting a new filing has fixed the file save issue, Unfortunately I can't explain doing anything differently.  Just wish I had tried saving before going so far down the path. Lesson learned 🙂 No worries, I REALY appreciate your prompt responses.  Thank you!

I'm having the same problem e-filing a 2024 amended return with TurboTax Deluxe 2024 Desktop.  At the final transmit step, it tells me that the Intuit Electronic Filing system is closed for the 2024 Personal Income Tax filing season.  I called TurboTax customer service and spoke to an agent, then a supervisor, and I was told that they are no longer accepting e-filings for the 2024 1040-X.  I asked for an explanation as to why they aren't accepted, but supervisor said she didn't know.  As the previous poster said, this is really frustrating and disappointing.    The TurboTax support info says:  Generally, you can e-file your amended 2025, 2024, or 2023 federal return via TurboTax if your original return was also e-filed in TurboTax. However, there's a chance your return can't be e-filed based on your unique situation. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.   This rejection doesn't appear to be due a unique situation; rather, it seems TT has stopped supporting this altogether.

I still do not see any change regarding an area to put the NYS refund check in for JUST federal taxes. When I put it in as "other income" or "miscellaneous"  it automatically includes it in my federal and state income and taxes it for both. Has anyone figured this out?

The "Let's get more information" about your RMD screen is more likely to be the source of your problem than incorrect entry of the 1099-R information itself.  I think the interview asks one question, but actually needs you to answer a different question on this page.   The interview correctly distinguishes between any RMD due before April 1 (for the unique situation of the first RMD at age 73, under current law) and then asks how much of the RMD is for that specific account.  The correct answer to THAT question is the 12/31/24 balance for this account divided by the applicable factor from the IRS' table.  The question that TT needs you to answer here, however, is "How much of the total amount of all RMDs are you allocating to this account?"  Enter the answer to THIS question, in your case, the sum of the RMDs from all of your IRAs (but don't include employer plan RMDs).  The text at the bottom of this page, which says "Note: Do not include the RMD for other retirement accounts you may have.  RMDs should be entered separately", is confusing or misdirecting users, since in fact, TT wants you to include any portion of the RMD from other non-employer accounts that you allocated to this account to satisfy the requirement to take the total RMD for the year.  So for this question, for your situation, on this screen, for this 1099-R, enter your total IRA RMD.  You can check Form 5329 (-T and/or -S, if applicable), Part IX.  The "undistributed RMD" should be $0.

Worked with Turbo Tax help today but the issue has still not been resolved. The suggestion was as follows:   Delete all entries in the rental section,  including the income. Log out of Turbotax Clear your cache and cookies and then log in to Turbotax on a new window or tab And re-enter the section Let your 1098 be your 1st expense reported I still have 1098 (mortgage interest) section not going to a new screen to take a number from me. It just resets back to the same page.

@ greghudson1   I just searched other threads.  Some other users in the forum said this was causing their issue.  I don't know if this is what is causing your issue, but only providing the info, just in case.   Are you using Windows and using Windows Defender for your security?   If so, do you have "Controlled Folder Access"  turned on in the Windows Security settings?   If so, it may be blocking various apps, but you may be able to leave it on and configure it to allow TurboTax through.      So if that's your situation, here's how to check: Windows Security > Virus and threat protection > Ransomware protection > Controlled folder access    If that toggle is turned on, then there should be a link to "Allow an app through controlled folder access" Does it show TurboTax as blocked?  Then see what choices you have there to configure it to allow TurboTax.

I'm a resident of Utah because I'm a full-time student at one of the Utah universities. I have a university job that I've held throughout my time in Utah. However, I had moved to New York for three months due to an internship. I'm not sure if I need to file a Credit for Taxes Paid to Another State because neither of my W-2s for both states mentions the other state. How do I determine whether I need to file for a double-taxation credit?

Yes, this is the correct way to report the 529 Rollover to Roth for California. Since the tax-free rollover is for a beneficiary, it doesn't need to be reported on the recipient's federal tax return.  Form 5498 is documentation for your records (along with the 1099-Q).   Unless a 1099-Q has taxable earnings for a non-qualified distribution, it does not need to be included in your tax return.  Here's more info on Form 1099-Q.    You can Contact TurboTax Support and share screens with customer support at no charge.    @Mochina    [Edited 03/24/2026 | 9:22 am]

I have prepared my 2025 Federal tax return using TruboTax Deluxe Desktop. When I click the magnifying glass next to the amount on line 18 (Individuals: Enter the sum of (i) Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR, line 11b, minus Form 1040, 1040-SR, or 1040-NR, line 14, and (ii) Schedule 1-A (Form 1040), line 37.), it takes me to the total at the bottom of page 2 on 1040/1040SR Wks and the two amounts do not match. What could be the explanation for this difference?
