No, you do not need a W-2.   If you did not work for an employer you will not receive a W-2.   Tell the software you do not have a W-2.   If an old employer transferred over from last year you can delete them.      Go to Federal> Wages & Income>>Retirement Plans and Social Security  (SSA1099 and 1099RRB) to enter your SSA1099.   And...be careful of this: USER ERROR WITH SOCIAL SECURITY ENTRY We have seen a lot of people who made a user error with the entry of their SSA1099.   The screen right after you enter the SSA1099 asks you if you lived in certain foreign countries in 2025.   If you skipped past that screen or answered incorrectly, your Social Security was not taxed correctly.   Look at your Form 1040 and see if line 6b was left blank due to that mistake.  The IRS is catching those mistakes and correcting them by reducing your refund or increasing your tax due.   It is really so important to read every screen slowly and carefully from top to bottom as you prepare your tax return to avoid errors.

If you satisfied all your RMD requirements, you can just enter the same amount as the distribution (box 1 of your 1099-R).  The program only uses the RMD amount you enter to calculate a penalty if you tell the program you didn't take enough out.  Your answer is not reported on your tax return or used for anything else.  If you didn't satisfy your RMD requirements and need the amount you should be able to find it on your year end statement for that account.

This was with the desktop version on a Mac.  And did a full uninstall (including all library files) and reinstall.  That solved nothing.  This is a payment block issue. While it can be caused by computer settings, is more likely caused by a glitch on the TurboTax side.  Either a corrupted profile, or a corrupted license key that blocks the connection between the desktop software and the third party payment service TurboTax uses. Here's the problem. Apparently, TurboTax has no way of trouble shooting from its end.  So they presume the issue is from the user's computer.  I spent over 5 hours on the phone with four TurboTax reps on this. Without fixing the issue.  Had to print out and mail in a state return because I couldn't connect to the payment server to e-file.  And can't sign up for the free audit defense that comes with my TurboTax advantage membership because there is no way to process that through the payment server.  Hours and hours of total wasted time on my end. There is just no excuse for this.  TurboTax needs to do better. Thanks.
