As you go through the home office expense section, there may have been a question that asked if you had any 'office only' expenses to enter.  If you said yes to that question, then there will be two places to enter an expense for each category presented.  Be careful to enter the total utility expense in the box for the whole home and it will be prorated based on the size of the home office.  If the office was only in use for part of the year, then you need to prorate the annual expense for that time period.   If you did not indicate that you would have any 'office only' expenses, then you should only see one place to enter each category of expense.  You would still enter the total annual amount (prorated by the number of months for the office if not the whole year) and it will be prorated according to the size of the office.

@kennyserb    What information are you entering? If your RMD really was not withdrawn until 2026 you did not get a 1099-R, so you have nothing to enter in your 2025 tax return. If you did get a 1099-R for 2025 then the RMD was not really late and you do not need Form 5329. Just enter the 1099-R.   If the RMD was actually late, and you do not have  a 1099-R for 2025, you have to add Form 5329 to your 2025 tax return. To find Form 5329 when you don't have a 1099-R you have to go to forms mode. Click the Forms icon at the top right of the TurboTax window. In forms mode click the Open Form icon at the top left. In the space that says "Type a form name" type 5329. That will give you two choices: Form 5329-T and Form 5329-S. Form 5329-T is for the primary or only taxpayer on the tax return. Form 5329-S is for the spouse, the second taxpayer, on a joint tax return.

No, the full amount in Box 1 is not taxable. Because Box 2A says "Unknown," the payer (OPM) is telling you that they haven't calculated the exact taxable amount for you. There will be some follow-up annuity questions that you will answer that will determine the taxable amount. Here is the flow of the interview that will get you to the follow up questions.     1. The Entry Stage When you start entering your 1099-R:  Box 2A: Leave this blank in TurboTax. Do not type "0" or "Unknown." Box 2B: Check the box that says "Taxable amount not determined." Box 5: Enter $4,476.79. Box 9B: Enter $81,030. 2. The "Simplified Method" Interview After you finish the main form, TurboTax will ask, "Do you need to calculate your taxable income?" or "Was this a periodic payment?" Say YES. It will then walk you through the Simplified Method Worksheet. You will need:   The Annuity Start Date: Since you've received this for 13 years, find the month/year the payments first began. Age of Recipient: Your age on the date the annuity payments started. Cost in Plan: This is your Box 9B amount ($81,030). Amounts Previously Recovered: This is the most important part for someone 13 years in. You need to look at your 2024 tax return. Look for the "Simplified Method Worksheet" in your records; it will have a line showing the total amount you have already recovered tax-free in all previous years combined. After you have finished with this section, your 2A taxable amount will be lower than your Box 1 amount.

An IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN) is a 6-digit number the IRS gives you to prevent someone else from filing a tax return in your name. Here are clear steps you can take to retrieve your IP PIN: 1. Check for IRS Letter CP01A. 2. The IRS mails Letter CP01A each year with your current IP PIN. If you have this letter, use the PIN listed on it. 3. If you don’t have the letter, get your IP PIN online at the IRS's Get an IP PIN site https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/get-an-identity-protection-pin, or 4. If you can’t access the online tool, request one by phone. Call the IRS at 1-800-908-4490 to have your IP PIN mailed to you (this can take up to 21 days). We can't issue IP PINs and you won't find them on your tax paperwork. You can only get IP PINs from the IRS. For more information, see How do I get my 6-digit IP PIN?

Good morning. A bona fide Puerto Rico's resident that receives benefits from the Social Security while still is a self employed. What is the mechanics to file via Turbo Tax the tax return if the income from self employed is exempt from income tax (sec 933), but have to file 1040SS for social security purposes and maybe income tax for certain portion of the social security received? Please advise.
