If you are in the review section and TurboTax is asking for vehicle information you no longer own, you need to remove that vehicle entry from your tax data. To remove the vehicle in TurboTax Online: 1. Go back to the Federal section. 2. Select Deductions & Credits. 3. Scroll to the Cars and Other Things You Own subsection. 4. Select the vehicle you want to remove. 5. There should be an option to Delete or Remove that vehicle. This will update your information and remove the vehicle from your tax return review. If you don't see a delete option immediately, navigate through the vehicle use or expense sections until you locate it.

Yes, you can use your TurboTax account to file a tax return for your deceased mother. In TurboTax Online, when you start the return for your mother, go to the Personal profile section. Select her name (or add her if new), then choose Edit. You will see an option that says, "I am preparing this return for [name], who has passed away." Select this option and provide her date of death. This allows you to file the decedent's return properly. TurboTax will guide you through adding Form 1310 if a refund is due. Make sure you have the necessary information about her income, deductions, and the date she passed away to complete the return accurately.
It was not included in my 2025 download as in 2023 and 2024.

To enter Form SSA-1099-SM (Social Security benefits) in TurboTax Mobile, go to the Federal section and then select Income. Look for Retirement Plans and Social Security and choose to Start or Update Social Security (SSA-1099) entry. Answer “Yes” if asked about receiving Social Security benefits, then check the box for the form SSA-1099-SM, and enter the amounts exactly as shown on your form. If you see only a Revisit option that loops you back, try closing and reopening the app or refreshing your session. This sometimes clears the navigation issue. Make sure you are fully through all prompts in the Social Security section to complete the entry.

Yes, dental treatments for the prevention and alleviation of dental disease do count as medical expenses per IRS Publication 502.    You must itemize your deductions to claim medical expenses. Also, medical expenses are only deductible for the amount in excess of 7.5% of your AGI. ‌For example, if your AGI is $50,000, only your medical expenses over $3,750 can be claimed as an itemized deduction.‌

Turbotax keeps crashing for me after I installed the update yesterday.  Crashes trying to open the help center popup, crashes when opening the payment browser window, crashes when saving IRA deductions info.  I've done all the troubleshooting steps - checked for TT updates, cleared browser cache and cookies, updated windows, turn off windows defender antivirus, restarted windows.   Nothing is fixing the issue.  I can't file the state return because I first have to complete the payment window, which is crashing.  To confirm it wasn't data in my return, I opened TT and immediately tried to open the help center (without opening a tax return) and it also crashes.  Ugh.

Yes, if the scenario you described was unplanned, it sounds like it would qualify for the financial emergency exception. The IRS defines “emergency personal expense" as an unforeseeable or immediate financial need relating to necessary personal or family emergency expenses (Section 115 of the Secure 2.0 Act), which is limited to $1,000 per year.   To report the withdrawal, here's how to do this in TurboTax Online:   Navigate to Federal > Income > Wages & Income Summary > IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) > Add/Edit Your withdrawal will be shown in a summary on a screen that says "Here's your 1099-R info" Choose "Continue" Continue through the interview until you arrive at a screen that says "Did you use your IRA to pay for any of these expenses?" If you qualified for an exception to the penalty, enter the information here.    Here is an article you may find helpful: Can I make a hardship withdrawal from my 401(k)?

Thank you for your response.  I have done the splitting up, where it is 67% my husband and I, with my son at 33%.  For some reason, it kicks it to 1.  We have done 100% us and 0% him.  Depending on which way we go, either my son is getting a good fed return and we owe, or he owes and we get a bigger return. Could we do it where he owes and we get the bigger return as overall the money out is less or is that a big no no?

Once you have submitted your tax return through TurboTax and it's been accepted, you can't cancel the filed return. If the IRS can't match your information to track your return, it often means there may be a data mismatch, such as name, Social Security number, or filing status inconsistencies. To address this, you can: 1. Double-check your return details: Review your TurboTax entries for accuracy in your personal information. 2. Wait for IRS updates: Sometimes, the IRS processing system takes a few days to update and recognize your return. 3. Amend if needed: If you find mistakes in your filed return, you may file an amended return later. TurboTax doesn't offer a way to cancel a submitted federal return. Ensuring your information matches what the IRS has is key for tracking.

If you didn't receive a 1099-INT from a foreign or US bank because your interest income was low, there usually isn’t a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) to enter. For TurboTax, you can typically leave the FEIN field blank or enter "000000000" if the form or software requires an entry. You still need to report the interest income even if no 1099-INT was issued. Enter the amount of interest you earned as reported by your bank statements. Foreign banks may not provide FEINs. You can report the interest with the bank’s name and any available identifying information, but no FEIN is required if unavailable.
