I don't think you're going to see much implementation of the 25 new tax laws in the 24 program - what if section for 25, other than known changes like the old standard deduction. most of the change affect tax credits and itemized deductions /standard deduction which have no effect on MGI. the items affecting magi the the tip deduction - will that affect MAGI or just taxable income. the same with overtime . there will be a charitable deduction for non-itemizers and bonus depreciation will be 100% subject to certain restrictions Before these changes can be implemented for Turbotax 2025, IRS has to write the regulations of how these changes are to be implemented/work.

DO NOT check the box saying that you got it in 2022. Just leave the one box checked that says "I got it in 2024." Do not check any of the other boxes. If you check "I got it in 2022" or "I intend to get it in 2025" TurboTax will report the income as business income on Schedule C and you will have to pay self-employment tax on it. And on the next screen, that asks if it involved an intent to earn money, select No.

Only the IRS knows what all it is doing with your return.   Here are some things to check:   First, you need to be sure the return was successfully filed. It depends on how you chose to file the return.   If you filed a paper return by mail, TurboTax does not mail it for you.  If you chose that method, you would have had to print it, sign it, date it, and mail it yourself.  It takes at least 4 weeks for a mailed return to show up in the IRS WMR tool.     If you efiled, double-check to be sure the return was efiled successfully and accepted.  If you used Online TurboTax, you can sign into your Online Account and check the efile status at the Tax Home.   What word is used there for the status:  accepted, rejected, printed, started, ready to mail, or something else? If that showed it was accepted, (or if you mailed a paper return), you can use the "Where's My Refund" tool at the IRS website below to monitor the status of your Federal refund.   Is there any message there? https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund   Here are some tips when using that IRS tool:   Be sure you enter the correct tax year, SSN, and filing status. Be sure you are using only the Federal refund amount.   Do not include any state refund or any total refund or net refund (Fed and State) that TurboTax may have provided on a summary screen.   Look at your actual Federal return to get the Federal refund amount to use in the tool, i.e., your Form 1040, Line 35a.

Yes.   You can have both installed at the same time.  To amend a return you did somewhere else or you don't have the original.tax file,  you would first have to fill out Turbo Tax like you are doing the original return.    You have to recreate the actual wrong original return.  Then when it matches each line that you really filed you have to tell Turbo Tax you will mail it so it thinks it was filed.  Then you can amend it.  You will have to mail the amended returns.   Mail them in separate envelopes.      You can buy the Desktop Download program directly from Turbo Tax here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/   You can buy the Window's Business DIY program here….. My now ex-tax preparer made a mistake that I didn't catch on the 1065 which raised my personal taxes significantly for 2024. She now wants $$$ to file an amendment for the 1065 and 1040. Can I use Deluxe and Business to file an amendment for 2024? I understand I will have to enter all the data from scratch.
Oh, what code is in the 1099R box 7?  That usually tells you why you got it.
Did you get a 1099R?   That is if you took a IRA or 401K or retirement withdrawal.   Or did a rollover.  Or got a pension or other reasons.    If you don’t know why you got one then ask the plan why.... See more...
Did you get a 1099R?   That is if you took a IRA or 401K or retirement withdrawal.   Or did a rollover.  Or got a pension or other reasons.    If you don’t know why you got one then ask the plan why.   Enter a 1099R under Federal Taxes Wages & Income Then scroll way down to Retirement Plans and Social Security Then IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) – Click Start
It just wants to know if you got it before.  Not if you reported it or not.  So say yes.   Are you doing a 2024 return?   So you didn’t get that income in 2023?   I wonder why it asked about 2022?
I need help with accessing my Amended return
what does 1099 R mean?

hmmm,   I guess you will have to mail the return then.

Who died and when?  If it was in 2024 just leave the names as before.  You can’t change the order of names.    My husband died in 2023.   He was the primary on our Joint return.   I filed 2023 as normal Joint. For 2024 i filed as Single on a new return and did not transfer from 2023.  If you are using the Online version you need to set up a new account for yourself and not transfer from 2023.   You can file a Joint return the year your spouse died.  For the next two years following a husband's or wife's death, the surviving spouse can file as a QSS Qualifying Surviving Spouse if they have a qualifying child. That basically lets you continue to use the same tax brackets that apply to married-filing-jointly returns.  After the year of death if you don't have a child you file as Single.   TurboTax will not allow you to remove the primary taxpayer on the return. And you should not try to change the order of names.  If you were listed as the spouse and want to be the primary taxpayer now or delete the primary person, you will need to start a new return by logging out and starting over with a new account and new user name and password.  You will not be able to transfer from the prior year.
I don't think you addressed the issue... IRS rejected my dad's return because my mom was always listed first. (The lady's question was the same, her husband was listed first...
I am adding a 1099-MISC I missed reporting and Turbotax is asking me if I got the same type of income in 2022 (yes, but already reported) and 2023 (no).
I have the same issue... My mom was listed first on the taxes and dad was second... so it keeps rejecting the EFILE, even though I reported the death in turbo tax.   How do I tell turbotax to switc... See more...
I have the same issue... My mom was listed first on the taxes and dad was second... so it keeps rejecting the EFILE, even though I reported the death in turbo tax.   How do I tell turbotax to switch who is the primary filer without doing a bunch of work?   Or do we just need to paper file?

True...need to watch how those losses are handled if you choose to attempt reducing income that way   As an example: Say the only Cap Gains you have  for the year are the result of Mutual Fund Cap Gains distributed each year at year end and reported in box 2a of a 1099-DIV form. Those $$ add to your AGI...but then, any 1099-B losses resulting from the actual sales of securities you might own....those losses (in this situation) will be used to offset the 1099-DIV box 2a $$ first.  Then if the losses are greater than that, then up to $3000 more can be used to offset your other ordinary income (pensions, taxable Interest, ordinary dividends, etc)
