We can't see your return to do an analysis, but you can look at your tax return.  The most common reasons for owing additional taxes from previous years. A posting error on income or withholdings may have occurred. A credit that you got in the previous year was not included this year. You may not have qualified. You may not have requested it. Did you have dependents that didn't qualify this year? You can view your 1040 tax return and the supporting three schedules in the online version of TurboTax.  On the left menu, scroll down to Tax Tools. If necessary, click the side arrow and select Tools.  A box will appear in the middle of the screen. Select View Tax Summary. A tax summary will appear. On the left side menu bar, select Preview My 1040. This will bring up a copy of your 1040 Tax return. If you continue to scroll down, Schedules 1,2 & 3 are available if they are required. This fixed my issue as well.  This question about living abroad could be improved by defaulting to NO at that represents the significant majority.  I can also in Vision a revised statement.
The latest update to the desktop version has added the uncommon situation after entering your W-2 that asks if there are any tips reported in box 1 but not in box 7 or 14.

Thanks for the response. Here is what I figured out the next day when I called the customer support line. After nearly 2 hours of trying things with tech support in the background, they were able to clarify that a.) the State of CO allows negative income to be pulled in from the federal return, and b.)  the calculation of that income figure is occurring in the background, rather than pulled from the Fedeal form.   In this case, the calculation of the standard deduction, less income (without SSI since it was below the threshold) and without the new Senior credit deduction of $6k), resulted in the negative number I was seeing pulled into the State return. So, kudos to the support team for getting to the heart of it, but it all could of been made perfectly clear had the “show details” button on the State page actually shown all the details so one could understand how that number was calculated.   Due to the particular numbers I have in this return, the negative Federal income amount displayed at the beginning of the State refund process does not correlate to any number on the 1040 Federal form as it is calculated in the background by TurboTax. I don’t love that.

When in the HSA section TurboTax asks about your HDHP coverage, you'll indicate that you had different types of coverage throughout the year, then indicate Self-Only coverage for January though June and None for July through December.  TurboTax will then indicate that the $4,300 contribution is $2,150 over the limit and will ask what you will do about the excess.
