No. Based on the information you shared, you cannot file as Head of Household. To qualify for Head of Household, you must be considered unmarried at the end of the tax year. To be considered unmarried, your spouse may not have been a member of your home during the last 6 months of the tax year. The two of you can file jointly, or each file Married Filing Separately. This is an additional deduction, not included with the standard deduction of $17,750. This additional deduction for seniors is calculated automatically based on the birthday you have entered in your tax return.
Note, this deduction has income limitations. It begins phasing out at income of $75,000 for a single filer (or $150,000 married) and is completely phased out at income of $175,000 for a single filer (or $250,000 married).
This deduction is located on Schedule 1-A Additional Deductions, Part V. The total additional deductions will be summed and appear on your 1040, line 13b.
You can check this in TurboTax Online by navigating to Tax Tools on the left of your screen, choose Tools, then View Tax Summary. On the left of the screen, select Preview my 1040, and scroll to Schedule 1-A Part V.

To clarify, do you have a star symbol next to line 13 and 18 of Form 8606? If yes, then TurboTax is using the Taxable IRA Distribution Worksheet per Pub. 590-B to calculate the amounts and lines 6 to 12 of Form 8606 will be blank. It will be listed as "Tax IRA Dist" in the Form list.
Generally, TurboTax will asked about your value of all of your traditional IRA, SEP, and SIMPLE IRA accounts on December 31 after you have entered all Form 1099-R and click continue.
If this doesn't solve your problem then It would be helpful to have a TurboTax file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions for TurboTax Download/Desktop:
On your menu bar at the very top, click "Online"
Select "Send Tax File to Agent"
Click "Send"
The pop-up will have a token number
Reply to this thread with your Token number, the tax year, and add @DanaB27 . This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.
We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

I understand what you're saying, but this was court ordered 45 years by the judge handling the divorce. He specified the percentage my wife would get would come from the ex-spouse's pension fund before the ex-spouse spouse got his portion of the pension. So since it's a % of the employees's company pension, and income to my wife, she gets a W2 (or some form) from the company her ex works for. And every year, she reports it on our taxes. Otherwise, I don't know what to say. She's received a form from this company every year for 45 years. Her attorney at the time explained it all to her and why she needed to submit it with her other income info to the IRS. It may not be handled this way now, but at the time of her divorce this was how it was dealt with, legally.

The Form 1040-X for amending a 2025 federal tax return is estimated to be available in TurboTax on 02/25/2026
An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
Before starting to amend the tax return, wait for the tax refund to be received or the taxes due to be paid and processed by the IRS.

Have entered at least $2,500 of earned income? Without earned income you are not eligible for the child tax credit.
Is the child age 17 or older? If so they are not eligible for the child tax credit but only for the Other Dependent credit of $500.
Go back to My Info on the left side of the online program screen. Edit the dependent and carefully check your answers to the questions.
Note - A child born in 2025 is deemed to have lived in your home for the entire year.
Make sure you select them as your Child, that you selected that they lived in your home for the Whole Year, temporary absence for education is deemed living in your home. That they did NOT provide over one-half of their own support (You Did), that you indicated there was no one else in the household providing support to them, and that you did NOT check the box labeled Not valid for employment in the Social Security number section.
If all your answers are correct then delete them as a dependent and re-enter.

I'm wrapping up my Missouri taxes and have an issue. I have a modest over payment of taxes to the state of $627 which I can validate and shows on line 49 of my MO-1040. I've also checked the box to apply ALL of my overpayment to 2026 taxes on MO-1040ES Wks, Part II, Line 2b. However, on MO-1040ES Wks, there's a number I can't understand and it is impacting my overpayment balance. In MO-1040ES Wks, Part 1, line 1e, regarding 2026 Estimated Tax options, there's an amount showing as "Equal to 100% of overpayment (no vouchers)" of $241, not the $627 from my return. Further, on MO-1040ES, Part II, lines 1 and 1f, both include the $241 amount, not the actual overpayment of $627. It then transfers this $241 to MO-1040, Line 50, showing that's the amount of my overpayment to apply to 2026 taxes. Lastly, the balance at the bottom of the schedule MO-1040, Line 53 is showing $0. The math for that line is Line 49 (showing $627) less Line 50 (showing $241) less Line 51 (showing $0) less line 52 (showing $0), which should leave a balance due of $386 - but it shows zero?? It is mathematically incorrect??? Also, if I click on the $241 amount in MO-1040ES Wks, Part II, Line 1 regarding the amount of overpayment available, to Go To Supporting Form, it takes me correctly to MO-1040, Line 49 but that balance is $627, not $241. This seems like an error in the software or either I'm doing something that is causing this error. Any ideas?
