Wouldn't you enter ALL of their qualifying expenses under Option 1? (as a grand total--and should offset the distribution)?? I'm guessing non-qual would be option 2.
TV ad is offering free filing with Turbotax if filed before feb. 28, is this true?
Your token number is: 163540865-00757733 I believe the issue is TT's incorrect handling when using distribution code "G" in box 7 of the 1099-R

Yes, since they refuse to issue a 1099R, there are specific steps you may take to report this properly.   For the Income:  Go to the Wages & Income section. Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security and select IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R). Choose "I'll type it in myself." Enter the payer's name and EIN from your 1042-S. Map the Gross Income from your 1042-S (Box 2) into the 1099-R Box 1 (Gross distribution) and in Box @a. Record any income tax paid in Box  4. In Box 7, give a distribution code of 7 Because you are reporting 1042-S data on a 1099-R screen, the digital trail won't match what the IRS has in their e-file database. Because of this, you won't be able to file electronically, so you will need to print and mail your return, along with a copy of your 1042-S. In addition, include a letter of explanation on why you are mailing this. The letter can be worded as;   "I am a U.S. Citizen currently on active duty with the U.S. Armed Forces, stationed at an APO address. The payer [Name of Payer] incorrectly issued Form 1042-S instead of 1099-R due to my APO address and refused to issue a correction. I have reported this income on my Form 1040 as retirement distribution income and have attached the 1042-S for verification of income and federal withholding."   An APO (Army Post Office) address counts as a domestic U.S. address for tax reasons. If you’ve given a Form W-9 to confirm your U.S. status, the payer is required by IRS rules to update their records. Refusing to do so goes against those regulations. If you haven't submitted a W-9 to the payor, I would suggest that you do this as soon as possible.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.   You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".   After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.   Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.   To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...   After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

Why do we need to “Check”, if they were decent in their business management and planning it would be the updates will be ready “X day”. Instead it was before February, then mid month, now this. Guess the ones paying more for this delay are also paying the IT and management teams poorly managed rollout.
It is now 2/18 and the form is still not available. We really need to file.
What about the rest of the numbers on the k-1? Which form gets the other numbers on it?

Yes, you should include the net capital gain income in the "Other" Income category if you think it is taxable. You need to keep in mind that capital gain income is not taxable on your federal return if your taxable income is under $44,625 (single filer) or $89,250 (joint filer). Since you cannot distinguish it from other income in the TurboTax estimated income tax worksheet, it will be considered taxable at ordinary income tax rates.

It's not simplifying it when you enter your 1098-T and 1099-Q and have a taxable distribution and maybe even a penalty on your 529 withdrawals.  Then to avoid that, you have to falsify expenses by claiming room and board paid to the school as books and materials paid to the school (which are counted toward the credit, when R&B is NOT allowed to count toward a credit) or not paid to the school (which isn't counted toward the credit, but still is misleading).  Room and board or rent, utilities, and food for an off-campus fulltime student are qualified expenses for 529 distributions and if TT is going to "help" by calculating the taxable portion of distributions, then it should allow you to enter ALL categories of qualified expenses for offsetting 529 distributions.  Which it does, if you can dig into Forms and enter your information on the People worksheet.  But they're leaving Online customers in the lurch.  TT saves these worksheets for your information, though you still have to have receipts to back your numbers up in case of an audit.  If the worksheets are to be any use at all, they should reflect reality and not force you to miscategorize expenses.  Might as well get rid of the worksheet(s) for student expenses and just tell the customer to enter the taxable portion of the year's 529 distributions themselves and direct them to the IRS Publication 970 for how to calculate it.
