The text in TurboTax needs correcting. Any distribution taken in 2025 from your IRA has to be shown on your 2025 tax return. @PrivateGuy

I'm experiencing the same issue on desktop. The negative community property withholding adjustment is requiring an amount < 0 but when a negative number is entered, the total payment 25d (subsequently line 33) in form 1040 is not calculating properly and is adding instead of subtracting the amount. I have tax file number to share if needed. This is preventing me from submitting my taxes.

thanks so much for your help. So I did the following things: Prepared first a NJ non resident and a NY resident. When prepared the NJ, I am asked to ''Check "Remove These Wages" for each state wage line that is a duplicate''. I see NY 272,865 and NJ 55,937 for box 16 - this is based on box 16 of W2 with federal at 272,865. I have selected to remove the 55,937. I then asked if I earned some of the $272,865 in another state. I said Yes and I have allocated this amount based on the days of work outside NJ. Finally when I checked the 1040 for NJ - I see that the taxable wage is not reported as $272,865 Am i ok now? D

I, an independent full-time student over the age of 24 who can not be claimed as a dependent by anybody, had scholarships/grants exceed the cost of my tuition by about $7,500 in 2025. My grant/scholarship money does not specify that it is required to go toward tuition. Therefore, is it still possible for me to claim the AOTC by taxing the full amount of my scholarship/grant money? If so, is this done by allotting the full amount of my grants/scholarships as "amount paid toward room and board" on the TurboTax platform? Does it matter if I did not actually make a payment of tuition, since my university deducted the cost of tuition from my scholarship/grants and disbursed the excess grant money to me? Is taxing my full scholarship/grant amount meant to compensate for this? Additionally, I have been paying back a debt I owe to a different university for tuition for a course. I paid $120 toward this debt last year. Would this be included in my educational expenses? I did not get a 1098-T from this school. Should I therefore add this amount to my educational expenses on top of my tuition from the university I attended last year?

After entering all the information, when reviewing the income and deductions section, TurboTax shows a difference in the amount entered versus the amount allowed. When I click on the "Why the difference" link the help box that pops up still shows the SALT cap for MFJ as $10,000, which is incorrect. The SALT cap for 2025 was raised to $40k under the BBB.

I paid through escrow so I claimed what I paid for that yr. 2025 1098 shows both yrs amount. We're talking less than $1400 per yr. Would I be okay if I try to fix it by only claiming one yr for 2025 and not get audited? Im afraid of opening up a can of worms by amending. I believe my tax liability is 17k.

I am a military member domiciled and stationed in California while my spouse is a civilian domiciled in Alaska. They never had wages earned in California. How would I complete this part of my taxes? Do I just put how much I earned on the California amount box? Or is this pertaining to how much my spouse earned? I am just confused.

The 1040 social security taxable amount shows zero taxable. My income from pensions and interest on investments total substantially above the limits so that my social security income should be taxable. I like the answer but don't believe it is correct.
