Usually this issue is associated with security programs on your computer. Try these steps:
1. Close the installation error message and TurboTax completely. 2. Temporarily disable your Antivirus and Windows Defender Real-time protection. 3. Locate the downloaded TurboTax_2025.exe file (usually in Downloads). 4. Right-click the file and select Run as administrator.
If that does not work, please see Troubleshoot TurboTax Desktop for Windows issues for more troubleshooting.

Thank you so much. I'll have her double check that I'm not on the lease as a co-signer, just for peace of mind. Because I doubt that only having utility bills in her name is enough proof of separation if I co-signed to help her move out. I honestly can't remember.

Thank you. So I utilize only the earnings while living in California as basis for the waiver? Do I need to fill out the waiver first or can I just claim a waiver on my California return?

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it. It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner. The IRS does not allow you to take it back.
If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.” The changes will go nowhere.
Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.
If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally. You will need to use a form called a 1040X.
Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself. Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed
The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February, But wait until your return has been processed.

If all of the 529 funds were used for qualified education expenses you don’t have to include 1099-Q in your return.

I have used TurboTax for years. This year, I filled in all of my information and set up my documents to mail. Once I printed the documents, I realized on of my adult children was left off as a dependent. He has been on every other tax year and was transferred over to this year, so I am not sure why he doesn't show up under the dependents section now. Further complicating this issue, there is another glitch where when I filed, I get an immediate refusal from the IRS, which Turbo Tax says is because one of us requires a pin. After hours on the phone with the IRS and Turbo Tax a few years ago regarding this issue, all I can do is print and file my returns. TurboTax says this is an IRS issue, the IRS confirms none of us have or need a PIN. I want to "unfinalize" my documents so that I can add my son back in as a dependent. How can I do that? I reached out to TurboTax and was told to file and amendment, which apparently I can't do at this time?

TurboTax does automatically generate Form 1040-SR for taxpayers aged 65 or older by using the birthdate entered in the "Personal Info" section. While the screen displays a standard 1040 form while you are working on the return, the 1040-SR is generated when printing, saving, or e-filing. I just tested this by saving a test return to a PDF and it did create a 1040-SR,

It would depend on your individual facts and circumstances whether your daughter would qualify as your dependent.
A 23-year-old in college full-time can be claimed as a dependent on their parents' tax return if they are under age 24 by the end of the calendar year, and they are enrolled full-time for at least 5 months, and they do not provide more than half of their own support.
They are as follows:
They must be their child, adopted child or foster child, brother or sister or a descendant of one of these. (i.e. This requirement is met if they are her grandchildren.)
They lived with you more than half of the year (these exceptions apply).
They are under the age of 19 (unless they are a full-time student. In that case it is age 24. They can be any age if totally and permanently disabled.
She provided more than half of their support
The child does not file a joint return with anyone else (unless to claim a refund of taxes paid or withheld).
As xmasbaby0 mentions above, you may have answered something when inputting your information that caused TurboTax to determine your daughter was not eligible.
If she meets the requirements listed above, you should go back through your personal information and your daughters (click on "Edit" next to her name under your dependents) to make sure everything was answered correctly.
Make sure you have answered that she does not provide more than half of her own support (if she does not) and
Make sure you have answered that she can not be claimed on someone else's tax return, and
Make sure you have answered that she was a student.
Watch for a screen labeled "Less Common Situations for [Dependent's Name]" where a checkbox for full-time student status is present.
