We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information. Can you please clarify your question?  What section of the return are you on in TurboTax?
@cynthia32    You create a separate 1099-INT on the Wages&Income page for those $$$.   Payer is either the IRS or the US Treasury Dept....and $$ go in box 1.

You have the option to report this as "Other Income" on your tax return.  Start in Federal Taxes >> Wages & Income >> Other Common Income >> Income From Form 1099-MISC. Click "Start" and work through the interview. After entering the info from the 1099-MISC, continue until you see the question about this being connected to your main job, and say "no."  Check only the box for 2025 income.  Then answer that this was not an "intent to make a profit."  Those three answers should classify this as "Other Income", which will appear on Line 8 on Form 1040.

Until yesterday, TurboTax had the mechanism I previously described in place  to do eliminate it from New York taxes until New York rejected my filing. TurboTax told me they had an error that they fixed. They didn't. They just removed the mechanism which resulted in the reduction amount being subject to NY tax. Since my federal return was already accepted, the only thing I could do as a workaround was to remove the amount in question from my federal income and then file the state return again. As of this writing, I'm still waiting to see if the State accepted it. Even if it does, I am concerned that a difference between the Federal AGI on the IT-201 and the 1040 could flag an alert, even though th bottom line result is correct.

A new, temporary additional deduction of $6,000 for those aged 65 and older (or $12,000 for a married couple if both qualify) is available for tax years 2025 through 2028. The deduction begins to phase out at income greater than $75,000 and $150,000 if you’re married filing jointly. This is in addition to the standard deduction or itemized deductions.    The senior deduction is automatically calculated by TurboTax based on the dates of birth you entered for each spouse.   The senior additional deduction appears on line 37 of Schedule 1-A of your form 1040, with that amount flowing to line 13b of your form 1040.   In TurboTax Online, you can only view Schedule 1-A after registering and paying the TurboTax fee.   But you can preview your form 1040 and check line 13b of your form 1040 which includes the senior deduction among other deductions if applicable, such as the tip deduction, the overtime or the car loan interest deduction.   to preview your form 1040 in TurboTax Online, follow these steps:   Open your return In the left-hand column, locate Tax Tools, click on the drop-down arrow then click on Tools On the Tools Center page, click on View Tax Summary In the left-hand column, click on Preview my 1040 Your form 1040 will display. Scroll down to line 13b   and you should see the amount of this deduction included in this line.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you just e-filed, nor can you stop it.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox on the corner.  The IRS does not allow you to take it back.   If you left out a W-2, a 1099G, or a dependent, or a 1099 etc…DO NOT change your return while it is “pending.”  The changes will go nowhere.   Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return.  If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and make the necessary changes to your tax return and re-submit your return.     If the IRS accepts your return, however, then you have to wait longer until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund.  THEN you can prepare an amended tax return and e-file or mail  it in. You have to be able to work from that return exactly the way it was when it was e-filed originally.  You will need to use a form called a 1040X.     Meanwhile, DO NOT go in and start changing anything on your return in the system, or you will make a mess for yourself.  Sit tight and wait until you see what the IRS does with the return you just e-filed   The Form 1040X you need becomes available in late February,  But wait until your return has been processed.

The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO.  You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)   The deduction is not on the same line as your standard deduction.  It is shown separately.     2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS SINGLE $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind + $2000) MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750  (65 or older/legally blind +1600) MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500  (65 or older/legally blind + $1600) HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)     For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra  deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.   (The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)   The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e.  Turbo Tax automatically includes it. A qualified workplace plan such as a 403b and 401k have a contribution limit of $23,000.  It is unlikely that you have both a 401k and 403b since those plans are offered by different kinds of employers and I don't know of any employer that would offer both.  You can only make contributions to a qualified workplace plan by payroll deduction -- no outside contributions allowed -- and all contributions are recorded on your W-2.  You do not enter them again separately.   An IRA is NOT a 401k or 403b.  IRAs are a different kind of plan covered by different IRS regulations.  IRA contribution maximum is $7000 (or $8000 if over age 50) and you must enter your contributions manually.

My closing ALTA for a rental property has a prorated/adjustments section for county taxes. Can those be included in the property tax category in addition to the amounts reported on my 1098 from the lender? My county taxes were charged out of the escrow account in August and December which I believe is in addition to the $989.31 I paid at closing.
