Q: Regarding Federal Tax/Your 2025 Income Summary/Interest and Dividends/1099-DIV: From my paper 1099-DIV I entered the amount ($368) into TurboTax both box 1a & 1b … the result on the Summary is a total of $767 … Why is TurboTax doubling the moneys I actually received and what do I do to only report the $368 I actually received?

I had the same issue. TTAX Deluxe DT. I was using a Norton secure browser as the default. I stumbled across another solution where that user set MS EDGE as the default and then rebooted the computer. I did the same thing and IMPORTS all work as they should. I think the Norton browser (chrome based) is blocking the download.

@ ladyksadness1 Sorry, but I've never had to open a second account. I presume what the second user would need to do is go to the main TurboTax product page and look for a Sign Up button in the top right, and start a new account as though you were using TurboTax for the first time. Again each account can only prepare 1 Federal return, and it will charge you for each return unless one of your family can use the Free Edition. Did you use the desktop version previously, which prepares multiple returns, and do you have Windows 10? If so, is that the reason you ended up in Online Premium? If so, and if you are stuck with Windows 10, be aware that H&R Block still has desktop software for Windows 10 that will prepare multiple returns with up to 5 Federal efiles.

The threshold for Additional Medicare Tax for married filing jointly is $250,000 in combined income. Our join income is under this. Despite that, TurboTax added Form 8959 automatically. I suspect this is because I was self-employed in previous years, but I am not this year. I cannot see the Form 8959 to remove it from my filing. It should not be there. How do I remove the form, which TurboTax added in error, and should not be there? You are forcing me to commit fraud if you don't give me a way to remove it.

I think the IRS has a typo using L vs I (as in Iris) L7Q6. According to.this site I7Q6 is correct and L7Q6 is nowhere to be found but L7Q6 submits ok. Seems like they have a typo when valudating.......

Yes, save the Form 8606 as it will be needed whenever a non-deductible contribution is made.
Here's more info on Form 8606.

Generally, you can e-file your amended 2025, 2024, or 2023 federal return via TurboTax if your original return was also e-filed in TurboTax.
However, there's a chance your return can't be e-filed based on your unique situation. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.
Follow these instructions to amend a prior-year return.

First, begin troubleshooting by logging out of the TurboTax platform you're using, Online or Desktop. From there, try these options:
If you are using TurboTax Online
Check your browser's settings. (Clear your Cache and Cookies)
Here are the official instructions for the most popular browsers:
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Microsoft Edge
Log back into TurboTax Online and navigate back to the Investments section
Or, Try using a different web browser to login and complete your entries.
If you are using TurboTax Desktop
Make sure the software is updated.
If you haven't rebooted your computer, please do.
Check your firewall and antivirus settings. Make sure they aren't blocking any feature of the software.
** If you are using the phone/tablet app, try changing to laptop/computer if possible. If you do not have access to a computer, switch to a web browser within your phone or tablet, and sign in from there.
**You might also want to uninstall and reinstall your desktop product (this has worked for some users). Make sure that you save the file and do a back up of your information (you do not want to lose any information). See: How do I back up my tax file in the TurboTax Desktop software?

Yes. Even though you had a final judgment in December 2024, the IRS considers you married for the entire year if your divorce wasn't officially finalized on or before December 31.
You can amend your return to Married Filing Jointly. This will combine your two accounts in the IRS system. This should satisfy the balance the IRS is asking him for. However, since your current Single refund is still processing, you should wait until you received the refund before filing the amendment (Form 1040-X).
Since your husband has a balance due notice with a deadline, he should call the IRS at 800-829-1040 (or the number on the top right of his notice). He should explain the situation, that you were legally married on Dec 31, 2024, and that he is waiting for your original refund to clear so you can both file a joint amendment. He can request a 60-day or 90-day collection hold on his account, which will stop the IRS from sending further notices while you wait for your refund to arrive.

It sounds like the email was sent to you in error. There was an issue with New York State returns that resulted in some returns being rejected. Those taxpayers were notified by email. If your New York return was accepted then there was no problem with it. You don't need to take any further action.
If you expecting a refund from New York you can check the status of that refund by going to: Check your refund status online—anytime, anywhere!

RogerD1, Thank you for your response! I take your point that the warning does say "MOST people." I am a touch concerned that there is no area / form to indicate that this is a service based contribution. In Pub 571, Section 4, the 15 year rule is described in detail. How does the IRS know that this is the case - or to ask another way, how do I know that this won't get audited after I submit? I apologize in advance & I'm just looking for certainty before I file. Best!
