I did finally locate where to go to upload last years TurboTax from desktop to this years online version. However, it took 40 minutes of trying to ask the same question 100 different ways. the help & FAQ are horrible! I finally had to go ask ChatGPT and it spelled out exactly how to find where to upload. I don't need anyone to respond to this, but wanted to note the problem that exists.

The IRS will not be accepting 2025 tax returns until January 26, 2026
When will I get confirmation about my Refund Advance approval?
You will receive a final decision of whether you are approved for a Refund Advance after you file your taxes and the IRS accepts your return. You will receive an email from Credit Karma when your Refund Advance funds are deposited, if you are approved.
The IRS accepts returns starting in late January. The time it takes to accept your return varies, but most customers get approval and can get money within 15 minutes of the IRS accepting your return.
If your Refund Advance is denied, you will receive an email from WebBank (the bank issuing the Refund Advance loans) with the reason for the decline.

The IRS will not begin to accept/reject e-files until January 26. Your refund advance will not be issued to you until the IRS accepts your e-file. If you already e-filed, your return is now on a server, in "pending" --where it will stay until the IRS opens up e-filing. Only a very few returns are accepted earlier in small test batches; so the likelihood of getting the advance earlier than 1/26 is small.

Be aware, all overtime is not excludable from income. Only the half-time portion. And only half-time, not more. And only if you work more than 40 hours. For example,
If you are paid $20 per hour and work 45 hours, and get paid $30 for your overtime hours, only the extra $10 per hour x 5 hours is excludable from income, not the entire $30 x 5 hours.
If you work 45 hours and get paid double time ($40 per hour), only half-time is eligible for the exclusion ($10/hour x 5 hours).
If you work 40 hours in the week, and one of those days is a holiday and you get paid time and a half on the holiday, that is not eligible because you did not work over 40 hours.
If you are a salaried worker (exempt from the FLSA), then none of your overtime is eligible for the deduction. That's because overtime is only eligible if it is required by the FLSA. If you are an exempt worker, your overtime is not required by law, but is a benefit provided by contract, and since it is not required by law it is not eligible.
For this year you will have to calculate your eligible overtime yourself. Next year it will be reported on your W-2 by your employer.

How to start a new joint return
You will not be able to merge two previous TT account to start your new joint return. You can transfer ONE of your 2024 returns into a new return, so choose the most complicated one. The other spouse’s information needs to be entered manually. The first name you enter will be the “primary” taxpayer——and in subsequent years you need to keep the names in that order—do not try to change the order of the names.
When you enter the primary spouse’s information in My Info, you have to answer the question "Were you married?" If you click the button for Married, then a drop down will appear that asks, "Do you want to file this return together with your spouse?" Then you choose YES to file a joint return. You enter your spouse's information into My Info. Whenever you are entering income information there should then be a spot for you and for your spouse's income information. WATCH for the names as you enter income on the screens. Or when you click to add income it will prompt you to choose which spouse had the income.
When you prepare a joint return you include all the information for both spouses on the SAME tax return. Include all of your personal information, all of your income from every source, all dependents (if any), all credits and deductions for both of you. You get ONE refund with both names on it.
If you are legally married at the end of 2025 your filing choices are married filing jointly or married filing separately when you prepare your 2025 return.
Married Filing Jointly is usually better, even if one spouse had little or no income. When you file a joint return, you and your spouse will get the married filing jointly standard deduction of $31,500 (+ $1600 for each spouse 65 or older) for 2025. You are eligible for more credits including education credits, earned income credit, child and dependent care credit, and a larger income limit to receive the child tax credit.
If you choose to file married filing separately, both spouses have to file the same way—either you both itemize or you both use standard deduction. Your tax rate will be higher than on a joint return.
Some of the disadvantages of filing separately include:
You cannot get earned income credit,
You cannot get education credits or deductions for student loan interest.
You cannot get the childcare credit
You have a lower amount of income on which to base the refundable additional child tax credit
85% of your Social Security benefits will be taxable even with no other income
The amount you can contribute to a retirement account will be limited.
Capital loss deduction is less than if you file jointly
You cannot get the $6000 senior deduction
You cannot get the deductions for overtime or tips
If you live in a community property state, you will be required to provide additional information regarding your spouse’s income. ( Community property states: AZ, CA, ID, LA, NV, NM, TX, WA, WI) and your returns become very complicated.
If you are using online TurboTax to prepare your returns, you will need to prepare two separate returns and pay twice since with online, you get one return per fee.
