secret. Turbotax does not use schedule L for anything. if you feel you must enter the number enter it as a negative. it seems the actual k-1 uses brackets, but Turbotax does not. in fact, there are instructions next to that line in step mode to enter it as a negative. also, as a negative in forms mode. you'll know you did it correctly when ending capital in Turbotax matches the k-1.

Hi, My parents have been in the US since January 2023 on J1 and J2 visas. They were NRAs during 2023 and 2024 as they were excluded from the substantial presence test for the first 2 years. They have become US residents for tax purposes since Jan 1st 2025. They left the US in September 2025 and are not planning to return in 2025. They may be visiting in 2026 but not more than for a week or two. They will have no US income other than savings bank account interest in the remainder of 2025 and in 2026. My question is whether they can file a joint tax return as US residents for the entire tax year 2025 and claim standard deduction if they report the foreign income for 2025. Are they required to file a non-resident tax return for 2026 if they only get interest income form a savings account in the US in 2026? They will not be present in the US for 30 days or more in 2026. Thank you 😊

Hello! Dear California Biz Tax Experts: I have a question about California SMLLC elected to be taxed as S corp. I have a California SMLLC in 2024, which was high gross revenue but very low profit. So in 2025, I submitted form 2553 and got approved to be taxed as S corp election in 2025 (effective 2025/1/1) . In early 2025, I paid CA FTB for 2025 Estimated LLC fee/LLC Tax ($800 LLC annual tax by form 3522 and $2500 estimated LLC fee by form 3536), and  also $900 in 100-ES for S corp because I was not sure if the business will be LLC or taxed as S corp for 2025. Later I received IRS approval that the business is elected to be taxed as S corp (effective from 2025/1/1). So right now, CA FTB have got both my payments for LLC and S corp. My questions for 2025 year tax are: 1. Is the $800 annual LLC fee (3522 form) not applicable for CA LLC taxed as S corp? Is the payment covered by 100-ES which includes a equivalent $800 Franchise tax? 2. May I request the LLC fee/tax payments for SMLLC be re-applied to the S corp? Should I call CA FTB to re-categorize the payment correctly?  Or will CA FTB take care of it in tax return season?   Thanks very much!

I am getting into the same issue with Turbotax Business 2024. I last saved the tax file in September. Today I tried to reopen it so that I can get ready for filing the return. And I got that Error 190 message. The suggested solution is to download the state forms. I am in Texas and there is no state income tax in this state. What are my options? Thanks.

If this is a help, I have inserted the portion of the email that I recieved from Turbo tax immediately after the filing was rejected.  It states the Oct. 20 deadline for this case.           Important filing deadlines             If your return is rejected before the April 15, 2025 tax filing deadline has passed, you can still correct and re‑file your tax return before April 20, 2025 without being considered late by the IRS. If you filed an extension, and your return is rejected before the October 15, 2025 tax filing deadline has passed, you can still correct and re‑file your tax return before October 20, 2025 without being considered late by the IRS. Learn more   If you e‑filed any state returns, you’ll receive separate status emails about those returns. Delays in e‑filing your federal return may cause delays in your state tax return. And remember, keeping a copy of all status update emails like this one is always a good idea.              Check before you click! TurboTax will never ask you for your personal information in an email. When you click on a link, the address should always contain "intuit.com/".

There are places for two names on Schedule C: "name of proprietor" and "business name." Name of proprietor should be the name of whichever one of you owns the business. Business name should be the name of the business. If it is truly "our business," meaning that you both own it, you should not be reporting it on Schedule C, or at least not on a single Schedule C. How you report the business depends on whether you live in a community property state, and whether there are any other owners besides you and your husband. There are additional considerations if the business is a partnership, LLC, S corp, or C corp.

Yes, that message is different from the AGI not matching. It is now too late to e-file for 2024, with or without an extension. You will have to file by mail. I don't know why you think you should be able to e-file until Oct. 20. October 15 is the last day for an initial e-file, with or without an extension.

Do you have the tax return data file with a .tax2024 file name extension? You cannot open a PDF in TurboTax. Do you have the TurboTax software in Windows or on a Mac? Don't try to open the file by clicking on the file. Start the TurboTax program, then open the file from within TurboTax. I'm not sure what you mean by "TT doesn't complete the task of opening." Do you mean that TurboTax does not open the .tax2024 file, or that the TurboTax program doesn't open? What exactly happens when you try to open the file? If you get an error message, what is the exact complete message?

I changed the AGI to $0 and was rejected again.  As before, it says: "Transmission failed: You are past the deadline for new filings. Please contact customer support. Looks like we've had a technical hiccup."     Is this different from the statement that the 2023 AGI does not match their records?  I know the 2023 AGI is correct.   Continued thanks for your help!
It was rejected due to the AGI, so I will try marking that as zero as you suggest.  Thank you!

Also, If I follow what you are suggesting, turbotax is not showing $104 income on line 4b in 1040. It is calculating the penalty on this $104. That makes me feel it is leaving behind some holes which could again be questioned later on.
