I attempted to upgrade my laptop soft ware to complete my 2023 tax returns. Can I get my money back? I paid $80 for it but did not get it.

We qualify for the American opportunity credit for education. Turbo says so. We also have a $2300 guitar that was required.        In most cases, receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) doesn't automatically disqualify you from claiming the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC).  Here's a breakdown of the requirements for claiming the AOTC: Who can claim it: The AOTC can be claimed by an eligible student, a spouse filing jointly with an eligible student, or a dependent claimed on your tax return who meets eligibility requirements. Student Eligibility: Specific criteria must be met, including pursuing a degree or other recognized credential, being enrolled at least half-time, not having completed the first four years of higher education, not having claimed the AOTC or Hope credit for more than four years, and not having a felony drug conviction. Income Limits: Eligibility for the full AOTC is based on Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI), which must be $80,000 or less for single filers and $160,000 or less for those married filing jointly. Reduced credit may be available for MAGI within certain ranges, and there is no eligibility if MAGI exceeds the upper limits. Qualified Expenses: The credit is based on eligible expenses like tuition, fees, and required course materials.

You need to include more information.   Was the income you entered the ONLY income you received for 2022--or was it in addition to other income you had already entered on an original 2022 return?   What is your filing status?  Was any tax withheld from the income that was on that W-2?   Provide some details----but no personal information.

The Online version only gives you Form 4562. Form 4562 is just a Summary of the Depreciation for the current year and doesn't list the items. If you need to see the details,   You need to use the Desktop program. Using the Desktop program you can get an Asset Life History worksheet but you have to do it in Forms Mode, click Forms in the upper right (upper left for Mac)  You can't get detailed worksheet showing all the assets but you can get the Asset Life History on each one. It doesn't print out with your return or save in the pdf.  So you have to print each Asset Life History individually.   Scroll down the list of forms in your return to a Asset Entry or Asset Worksheet and open it.  Then down on line 14 is a QuickZoom button to Asset Life History, Click on that.

And another wrinkle is if you are on Windows or Mac.  Sounds like the op is in Mac saying Applications folder.   Windows has programs.  On Mac you can’t open Turbo Tax without automatically checking for updates.   In Windows you can bypass the updates if you turned off check for updates before.   The first thing I do after I install Turbo Tax and do the first check for updates I then go to Online-Update Preferences and select Ask me first before updating.

Sounds like you need legal advice from your own divorce attorney.   Independent contractors pay self-employment tax for Social Security and Medicare---about 15.3%.    And the person who pays the contractor uses the amount they paid to the contractor as a deduction.    Claiming that a divorce settlement is payment as an independent contractor would be fraudulent.

SCAM ALERT: I had the same experience.  After paying $45 for the version that TT offered me, I was shocked to discover that it covered me for only one year from the date of filing.  Useless.  The IRS does not even begin auditing until well after the close of the tax year.   When I called Audit Defense, they told me that the traditional product that I had purchased for the years prior to 2023 was still available, and valid for as long as audits were likely (seven years) and priced at only $39.95, as in the past.   The current product especially created for TT members is MORE expensive for LESS coverage.
Today is a federal holiday.   Try tomorrow.
Or did the IRS change your return for not reporting the right taxable amount of Social Security on 1040 line 6b?
I am trying to set up my scorp 2024 taxes and cannot connect.
