@Bowie1997 -probably because the requests are so limited that the cost of implementation far exceeds to demand generated.

TurboTax does not receive any kind of tax refund, federal or state.   If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the $40 service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the $40 service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return. For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/ Tax Products Group Contact Information - https://help.sbtpg.com/hc/en-us/articles/230084587-Contact-Information Call 1-877-908-7228 Or email - TPG-CSsupport@greendotcorp.com

Hi there! Did you get a resolution to this? I'm in the same boat. The IRS sent me a LTR 4087c and specifically mentioned Form 2555.  In previous years, Form 2555 usually had line 19 filled out, but this year TurboTax decided to put that amount on line 20a. No clue why it decided to put it on line 20a this year!

We have land in simple trust that is sold.  The trust instrument states to distribute as principal.  Does the trust itself pay the tax?   I think that makes sense since the document said to distribute the sale as principal (I would assume gain and all because the remainder beneficiaries are the same as the income beneficiaries).  If the trust distributed all the income they shouldn’t have to pay any tax on that gain because their tax rate is below the threshold? if you are distributing that gain as pricinpal it seems to me it shouldn’t be reported as DNI?

@HOTMORA80  This is mainly a user community forum--not a direct route to TurboTax Support.      Did you get an IRS letter?   You have another thread where it sounds like you got a letter from the IRS stating that the IRS adjusted your refund due to "miscalculation or other error" and also due to other debts.  You wrote there:   "We made changes to your return because we believe there's a miscalculation or other error. In addition, we show you owe other tax debts and applied all or part of your refund to them."   https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/that-the-irs-said-turbotax-makes-calculated-my-refund/01/3667278#M1356419   Refer to that thread for more information.   If you didn't purchase the Audit Defense product,  TurboTax also has a free Audit Support Center for help with IRS letters, etc.   At the FAQ below, scroll way down to the bottom of the chart, and you will see the phone number where you can get help from TurboTax Audit Support Center concerning an IRS or state letter.   FAQ:  TurboTax Audit Support Center https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-audit/turbotax-audit-support/L6AcMoNFD_US_en_US

This is mainly a user community forum.   No one but you can check your deposit information.  Here are a couple  of things you can check:   FAQ:   Where can I find my direct deposit account information after I've e-filed? https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/find-direct-deposit-account-information-e-filed/L9HUEnN0h_US_en_US   If you don't recognize the deposit info, did you have any TurboTax fees that you paid out of your Federal refund?   If so, the funds are first deposited in an intermediary bank where the fees are subtracted.  So in that case the IRS will think that temporary account is your "bank account."  That third-party bank then sends the rest to your bank (or card) in a separate direct deposit.   If you DID use that method to pay your TurboTax fees, you can check on the funds at the third-party company that manages that--SBTPG.   To look up your info on their website, use the "For Taxpayers" portal at https://www.sbtpg.com/   If you used them, and if there's an issue, SBTPG has a phone contact page at the following link. It also shows their business hours.  Even when they are closed, you may be able to get automated info, or you can log in as above. https://help.sbtpg.com/hc/en-us/articles/230084587-Contact-Information   NOTE:  If you paid your fees upfront with credit/debit card and did not pay any TurboTax fees out of your Federal refund, then the info above about SBTPG won't apply to you.

This answer assumes your 2022 return was prepared in Online TurboTax.   Any return prepared in desktop TurboTax will not be in an Online account.  Here's how one would normally find past-year online returns and how to troubleshoot for multiple accounts (User IDs) if necessary.  Many people end up with more than 1 account.  The pathway to download the 2022 PDF or tax data file depends on whether or not you have started an online 2024 return.  I provide both scenarios below, so choose which one is appropriate for your situation.   If you have not yet started a 2024 online return: Sign in to your account.   What you see next depends on whether or not you have already started a 2024 return in that account.   If your left column menu is minimal, and does not have a Tax Home tab displayed, that would imply you have not started preparing a 2024 return in that account.  If you haven't yet started a return, it will start asking you some questions.  Answer those preliminary questions (you don't actually have to prepare a return), and then when you are far enough into the process the left menu column will change, and you'll then see a Tax Home option.  Do not click the Documents tab.  Instead, click on Tax Home.  Then on the Tax Home screen, scroll way down to the bottom to "Your Tax Returns & Documents".  Expand that section and choose the past year you want.   If your past returns are not shown there, then you likely have multiple accounts and signed into the wrong one.  I'll tell you below how to troubleshoot.   If you have already started or finished a 2024 online return: Log in, and if you've already started a 2024 return in that account, then it may already open at the Tax Home.  If not, click the Tax Home tab in the left column menu.  Do not use the Documents tab.  At the Tax Home scroll down and expand "Your Tax Returns & Documents."   If the past returns are not there, see the steps below.   If you do all that and can't find the past return, here's how to look for multiple accounts: You can have up to 5 accounts that use the same email address for notification purposes.  A User ID may be an email address, but it doesn't have to be.  It might be only part of an email address, or it can be anything at all.   To get a list of your User IDs, reset password, and recover account access, etc., you can use the tool at the link below.  When using the Account Recovery tool, try using your phone number first if you can still access it.   After that, if necessary, then run the tool on your email address(es) you can access. NOTE: Before running the account recovery tool below, log out of all Intuit accounts including this user forum, or you might end up in a loop.  Then clear your browser Internet cache, close your browser, then reopen it, and go to the link below.  You may wish to copy this link so you can paste it into the new browser session. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery If still no luck after running that on your phone number you can still access and email address(es) that you can access,  here's another method:          Go back to the tool again, but this time leave the data field blank, scroll down a bit, then choose the small blue link that says "Try something else", and it will look you up by other parameters.

Thank you all for your very clear answers. Yes, I did account for the stepped-up basis. The property was professionally appraised after the death of each parent, but the work the developer did in the past three years greatly increased the selling price. Yes, the estate (not four heirs) sold the property. I will pursue the nuances mentioned in these posts, but have a much better understanding of how this is handled now. Greatly appreciate all of these replies, and so quickly!
