First, log in to your TurboTax account and go to the 2024 return.  Click the amend button.  Here are some more detailed instructions for amending your 2024 return.   Then, once you are in the return, go back to the 1098 forms that you entered.  Go to the 1098 form for the house that you sold and just delete the balance owed.  Change it to zero.     That will fix the deduction issue and if you are due a refund because of the larger deduction the system will calculate it for you.   In reason for amending just put that the "mortgage interest deduction was incorrectly capped".   @alex-jones

If you have an EIN issued for the estate fund, then you should be filing a return for that EIN to report the income received by the fund as well as the distributions to the beneficiaries.  This type of income should not be reported on your personal tax return since it was not your income.   The letter from the IRS that you received when registering for the EIN will tell you what type of return should be filed.

If they lived with you for the entire year, and their parent did not, then you would be the only one entitled to claim them. To claim a child as a qualifying child, they must live with your for more than 6 months out of the year.  You would not be able to figure out if someone else claimed them without filing a return.  If it is rejected for duplicate SSN then someone else probably claimed them.  You would need to print and mail your 2023 return anyways, so you would end up getting a letter from the IRS asking for proof that they lived with you and not the other person who claimed them (IF someone else did) Yes, when you get your 2 year old grandsons SSN you can amend your return to add him as a dependent.

No letter from IRS. I did not check the details when I file. But, when I check the details recently, I saw an extra income from the 529 distribution which led to penalty + additional tax. Since Turbo tax did not generate a worksheet, I don't know how the problem was generated. Now, I just want to make the corrections by file an amendment. Can I get the help to do the amendment from Turbo tax? I don't know what forms should be involved and how to do it using turbo tax online. I used online version.

I am the trustee for a fund where the beneficiaries are my niece and nephew.  I have an EIN number for that fund.  Do I need to file a separate return for that EIN number or include it with my return?  I already filed my return; do I need to do an amendment on that return or do a new one?  They both took out all their money and this is the last step to close it all out.  Overall shows all funds were at a loss but there are dividends listed in boxes 1a, 1b, 3, and 5.

I've repeatedly completed this form and it keeps resetting to carry over my loss so it is not allowed this year.   I got all the values from my 1120S form which indicates based on the debt basis that the loss is allowable.   This is very frustrating as TT online does not provide any instructions for the form (they link to IRS instructions, but do not explain or color code cells as in Turbo Tax desktop business for example) and the calculated fields do not populate as values are entered. Even worse, all values I enter are deleted.   There are 2 options below the form: Refresh Calculations and Continue. Upon refresh, the caluculated fields to do not calculate, they erase. I think my problem is coming from Line 47, Col. e, where my loss is flowing to, regardless of whether I change it in Row 35.   So it seems this is coming from somewhere else in my return, although I do not see a way to zoom to that source field. When I press Continue, I get a message that my allowable loss is $0. and my loss is not allowable.
No. A 1095-C is just for informational purposes.

I have been raising my grandchildren, paying for all of their care for the entire year for 2023 and 2024.  I do I find out if someone else claimed my 3 grandchildren?  How do I amend my 2023 taxes to include them.  Currently I don't have a social security number for my 2 year grandson and wasn't able to claim him on my 2024 taxes.  I hope to have his SS# in a couple months.  How do I amend my 2024 taxes to include him.

Yes.  This was not shared expenses, this was rental income so you would need to claim it as rent on your return.  You will also be able to claim a prorated amount of your expenses since you are claiming this as rent. To enter the rental income you will need to use TurboTax Premium Online or TurboTax Premier or Home and Business desktop version.  Where do I enter income and expenses from a rental property?

Once your return is filed, TurboTax has no control over the processing of your return or the release of your refund.   Here are a couple FAQs to track your refund: When will I get my federal tax refund? How do I track my state refund? Why does Where's My Refund say "approved" but TurboTax still says "accepted"? Why do some refunds take longer than others? What if my IRS refund is taking longer than 21 days?

Yes. You want to put in the correct information, so it would be appropriate to delete the original.   If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.    You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed. You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return. Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return. The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected. You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment Select your product below and follow the instructions.  Amend TurboTax Online  Amend TurboTax CD/Download
Thank you. I'll remember to check self-rental next time.
