You can elect to deduct state and local general sales taxes instead of state and local income taxes. You can't deduct both.

Your 2024 Federal Personal Extension has been rejected Dear TurboTax customer: This happens from time to time, but we’ll help you fix it. What happened? R0000-902-01 - Taxpayer TIN in the Return Header must not be the same as a TIN of a previously accepted electronic return for the return type and tax period indicated in the tax return. What does this mean? In most cases, you just need to submit a new extension application before the filing deadline. Get more information about this and other extension options from the TurboTax Community, your trusted source for all things tax related. Thanks, TurboTax

If your spouse agrees to file a joint return with you, you can amend their separate return in TurboTax to change the filing status and add your information and income, or vice versa.
If you used a different software to prepare the original returns, you would have to recreate both of them exactly in TurboTax, and then you can amend using TurboTax.
Once you file a joint return, you can't convert back to separate after the filing deadline.
See this TurboTax Help Article for more information and instructions.
Before you can file an amended return, the original returns will need to have been processed by the IRS (refund issued / payment processed). See here for more information on preparing an amended return with TurboTax.

Hi, Going crazy here on tax day. I completed my much more complex tax filing and need to submit for my son. Every time I try to open a new file, with the expectation that it will load my sons tax data from 2023, ttax2024 crashes. I've tried uninstalling all the VC++ redistributable and runtimes, reinstalled turbotax, etc, several times without luck. I've never had problems like this in the past and this is very disappointing. I need this resolved asap. I am on win10. It worked ok for my tax file, just won't open any new files. thanks

Has anyone also feel like they weren't given the proper info for the IRS payment option for what is owed? My fiance filed this past weekend and opted for the payment plan. We don't recall having to select a "pay by check" option at the end. I figured this out AFTER having to google it and dig through other TurboTax forums. Today he had a lumpsum of money leave the bank, not knowing they were just going to pull the funds out. That wasn't an expense we could afford and now it's putting us in a rough situation. Why not be more upfront about that? It seems incredibly misleading and wrong. Not to mention, adding an additional 175 we had to pay as an "upgrade." Seems pretty slimey.
