@user17588264765 , without knowing the details of your situation such as which country, the type of income, etc. etc. ( the more detail the better ), all I can provide is generalities ---
(a) you must use the whole Foreign Tax for credit or deduction -- cannot mix and match. What I am not quite sure about is if mixing is allowed when incomes are of different type -- I need to re-look at the code
(b) Note that deduction is limited by SALT limits for the tax year in question.
(c) You also have the right to ask the taxing country to abide by the treaty conditions in your filing ( i.e. don't accept the Taxed Deducted at Source ) for country.
I will circle back once I hear from you . If you do not wish to elaborate here in the public arena , you can always PM me ( just NO PII --- Personally Identifiable Information )
Is there more I can do for you ?

Or....take a breath.....start with MY INFO and enter your personal information like your name, Social Security number, address, etc. Next....go to the screens to enter your income. What kind of income do you have? Do you have a W-2? Or something else like a 1099? We can tell you where to enter your income. Post questions here in the user forum for help. Phone help is not provided for the Free Edition. Remember that we cannot see your screen or your tax return.

Thanks. Yes, I use the desktop version for mac. I've checked all over including one drive and my icloud accts. Interestingly enough, when I sign into my intuit account and request the email code for verification, I never get the email. I've checked my spam/trash/etc and there's nothing. Is something going on with intuit?

@barbaramerlie asked: "I filed my 2024 tax return using TurboTax on my laptop but the file is now gone. Where can I find it?" Does "on my laptop" mean you installed software? If you used desktop software, is it for Windows or Mac? In Windows the default folder for the *.tax2024 data file is the Documents\TurboTax folder. So look there first. Otherwise, search the entire computer system for any file ending in *.tax2024 and also look in the Recycle Bin. A few users have stated theirs ended up mysteriously in OneDrive. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, look and search in each one It's always good to backup the data file and any PDFs in case you have any computer glitches, crashes, theft, etc. Remember these are very sensitive files since they contain your personal info, financial data, and even bank account numbers so store them safely and securely.

Q. Typically scholarships can allow you to withdraw from the 529 for non-qualified expenses without paying the 10% penalty. But is this true if the scholarship was taken prior to the current tax year?
A. No. Most Tax experts believe and have written that the distribution must be made in the same year that the scholarship paid for the tuition expense.
Q. Is there a time limit on this exemption?
A. Yes. Some experts believes you have more latitude when deciding when to take the scholarship distribution, because IRS Publication 970 is not specific as to when the money must be withdrawn. If Congress is trying to encourage 529 plans, then it makes good policy sense that the withdrawals can be made any time prior to graduation. So, even the minority say the time limit is graduation or when you otherwise leave school. So, "several years out of college" would disqualify you even in the most generous of interpretations.

What tax year do you mean when you refer to "last year?" Are you talking about line 37 on your 2024 federal return? Or a tax due for 2024 to your state? Or are you talking about 2023? If you still owe for 2023, you will be billed later for interest after they receive the amount shown on the tax form.
If you owe 2024 tax due, you have to pay it yourself by the filing deadline on April 15, 2025.
If you have federal tax due you can pay by mailing your payment with the 1040V voucher, (which has the address printed on it, having the payment taken out of a designated bank account, or you can pay directly on the IRS website.

You must pay your state tax due using the state’s preferred method of receiving payment. For most states that will be by making a payment to the state’s own tax website, or by mailing a check or money order.
