Curious when Intuit will realize charging the filing fee for states is a major lost revenue oppty.  I will NEVER pay a filing fee to save me state processing costs.  So instead of nickel and diming the customers, Intuit should be selling to the states to cover these costs/fees to save the states money and improve their customer (us!) satisfaction with this product.  First tax software company to do this will own the market !!!!!!!

For self employed people: Gross income-expense= net profit Earned income=netprofit- self employment tax/2   The employee contribution limit for one-participant 401(k) plans in 2024 is $23,000. The limit for employer contributions is up to 25% of compensation. Because I am self-employed, I can contribute both as the employer and the employee.   My question is: What is the maximum amount I can contribute to a Solo 401(k)? Is the limit for the employee portion less than or equal to my earned income assuming it's less than or equal to 23,000? What is the limit for employer portion is it 25% of net profit or 25% of gross income?   Thanks in advance for helping me with this.

It depends. If you are referencing a single member limited liability company (SMLLC), then this would be reported on Schedule C with your individual tax return. An amendment can be completed if you were actually open for business in 2024, even though you had no income. How do I amend my federal tax return for this year? What is the deadline for filing an amended return? @lugar-darin [Edited: 04/13/2025 | 12:43 PM PST]
Homeowners Insurance for Fire, Hazard, Casualty is not deductible on a tax return. Mortgage Insurance is no longer deductible on a tax return.
It is actually an interest payment on a structured note.

If you received a grant and a 1099-NEC form, you should likely report this income as nonemployee compensation. Here’s how to file it in TurboTax:   Open or continue your return. Navigate to the self-employed income section: TurboTax Online/Mobile: Go to self-employed income. TurboTax Desktop: Search for self employed income (use this exact phrase, don't add a hyphen) and select the Jump to link. Answer Yes on the Did you have any self-employment income or expenses? screen. If you land on the Your 2024 self-employed work summary page, select Review next to the work you're adding income for. Answer the questions on the following screens until you arrive at Let's enter the income for your work. Select the form that applies to your situation and select Continue. You can enter the info from your 1099 form on the following screens.
