Hello. First, thank you to this amazing community and experts for taking the time to answer my questions. You all ROCK!! I converted Trad IRA funds into Roth funds. My question is this: Can I make the max contribution to my Roth on top of the converted funds? Ex: I converted 1000.00 of trad IRA to Roth Can I contribute the full 8000 (over 50) to the Roth for the year 2024? Or would that become an overfunding issue? I seriously don't want to deal with THAT!!! Thank you again for reading and answering. KelleyR

14a is just the first row for box 14. Do you have state withholding in box 14? Then put the amount from box 1 into box 16 for state distribution.

Correct, that income shouldn't be included on your 2024 return.

No, you do not need to file his credit card debt that is completely in his name. Since he has passed, the estate should really be handling this. Since there is no estate, the debt was uncollectible. Those 1099-C forms are for the credit card companies to write off the debt on their tax returns.
in California, if there is no estate left by a deceased person, their credit card debt typically cannot be collected, and family members are not personally liable for that debt unless they were co-signers or otherwise legally responsible.

If the IRS form 1099-NEC reports $10,000 in self-employment income and $2,000 in per diem, report the total $12,000 as self-employment income.
Report the $2,000 as a separate miscellaneous expense and title it Per Diem paid on 1099 or some title that accurately describes the expense.
Retain all paperwork with your tax return file should a tax authority have a question at a later time.

Getting an error message when I try to file--"Form 1099-R: Box 14a For electronic filing, New York State withholdings can not be greater than or equal to gross distribution or state distribution." There is no Box 14a on my 1099-R. Filed my Federal return with no problem, but I am stuck for my NY return. Since the state requires electronic filing, I am dead in the water. HELP!!!
