Do not say that you are exempt. You do not say how much you expect to earn in 2025. If you are single then you will pay tax if you make more than $15,000 in 2025. Your employer must withhold Social Security and Medicare from your wages, and may need to withhold federal and/or state tax as well.
You complete a W-4 for your employer to show them your filing status and show them whether you have any dependents, etc. The employer will withhold tax according to what you enter. If they withhold too much you can seek a refund when you file your 2025 tax return next year. If they do not withhold enough from your pay, you could owe the IRS (or state) at tax time.

The issue has been resolved. I contacted technical support, which is free, and together, the representative and I realized that a duplicate record for this income had been created when I was making updates/corrections to my return. Once the duplicate record was deleted, I was able to complete my return. Note to users: Be mindful when returning to a record to review or edit, that you DO NOT reenter your information. If prompted to reenter data, that is a sign that you are creating a new/duplicate record.

If you do not have a 1095A then when the software asks for a 1095A you say NO that you do not have 1095A and you move on. You do not ever enter a 1095C.

So I started my job recently in mid-April, and I am seeing a w4 form. I think I have a general idea about it, but I confused on whether to file the taxes or click on tax-exempt (this is my first job, so I haven't filed taxes before), I don't want to owe the government so what do I do? Thank you in advance.

My refund was $37.28 less than the return showed. Was this an IRS adjustment or was my $288.10 payment not enough to Intuit?

I was upsold into getting a tax professional to look at my return before filing it. I thought it was a good idea this year so I paid the extra and scheduled a phone call. The phone call never came and now I'm overdue for filing by three days. I have never been late on filing my taxes in my life.

The Control Number in box d of the W-2 is not needed to file a tax return. Leave box d blank (empty).
If you still receive an error then delete the W-2 and re-enter manually to clear the error.

Did you e-file your tax return and was it accepted? Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.
You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large button labeled "Transmit my returns now".
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund. Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.
To check the status of an e-filed return, open up your desktop product or log into your TurboTax Online Account. You can find your status within the TurboTax product. If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If accepted by the state use this TurboTax support FAQ to check the state tax refund status - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/tax-refund/track-state-refund/L3jgO8PGs_...

I have a similar situation. I (SSN holder) got my wife an ITIN after we got married (got married abroad) but she stayed abroad waiting for her visa. We used her ITIN to file taxes during those tax years. She moved to the U.S. and got her SSN in 2024, but I was unaware that I had to notify the IRS that she got her SSN. Here is my question if anyone can please help: (a) we used her SSN for her enrollment into a university degree program - which I assume is tied to the 1098-T we received for her. I had filed an extension and just tried e-filing yesterday. I used her SSN for our married filing filing jointly tax return and it was almost immediately rejected. what do I need to do? Can we still e-file?
