I have a situation where the client moved  from Canada to the US in October, 2024 and has both employment income in Canada (T4) and US (W2). In 2024, she is a non-resident alien in the US and a resident of Canada for tax purposes, according to the US Substantial Presence Test. She has paid taxes in both countries.  I have filled out the TurboTax FTC and T2209 forms, entering her US income and taxes paid . While the US foreign income (converted to Cdn) drops into her income stream, the tax credit does not. I see a value on line 1 and 2 of the T2209 form and the amount in line 3 should be the lower of the two. Instead it shows nothing.  Is this an issue in TurboTax? I could override the zero value, but this might make the return ineligible for Netfile.
I am not getting to the choose the product after logging out of my return account.  What am I doing incorrectly?

I've filled in my 1099-INT and 1099-DIV in Turbo Tax but it's asking me if a portion of the dividends is U.S. Government interest. How would I know this? I have a Fidelity account and have investments in Fidelity 500 Index Fund (FXAIX) as well as several United States Treasury Bills Zero Can. For context, I'm filing my own taxes for the first time and these are new investments for me as or early last year.

The amount could have come from an amount transferred from your W-2, a 1099, or a 1095-A.   Medical expenses amounts from those forms get automatically transferred to the medical expenses worksheet.   If you are using the Desktop program, you can click on Forms and review the Medical Expenses worksheet.   If you are using TurboTax Online, you can go through the Medical Expenses interview.  You can either search for Schedule A and use the Jump to link, or you can go to the Medical section from the Deductions & Credits menu.    Can I deduct medical expenses - and where do I deduct them?

This is what I did in 2024, and I'm having TROUBLE with turbotax. Spent my weekend trying to figure out how turbotax handles this situation, and from what I understand, it.... doesn't. Let me know if you have tips!   I rented 75% of my house for 75% of the year, so at the moment, I'm manually taking 56% (.75*.75=.56) of most of my expenses and hoping I figure something out later. Pulling my hair out trying to get turbotax to take the correct percentages of everything.
Same here. Try looking in your backup disc. I found two files there, but our third file seems to now be on Venus.
No, if you are claiming as a dependent, you will include the 1095-A on your return only.
Generally it's 4/15/2025 but it's unclear if if 10/15/2025 if you filed for the extension. Have you ever filed before? (not refund claim) It seems to depend on that.
Online, iPad? I'm using it on my mac. and your link is a dead link

This is the correct response, verified April 11, 2025, while working with a conscientious TurboTax supervisor.    The issue I needed to correct arose from a glitch in how TurboTax managed a state-specific property tax credit, not discernible until after payment is made and documents downloaded.   By following the supervisor's instructions to click on "Add Another State,"  the issue was managed within three minutes.    Now ... a word of warning.  The first customer service rep and supervisor told me I had to file the incorrect return, wait until IRS accepted it, then file an amended return to correct "your error."   Not only was that absurd, but I wasn't very keen to take their advice to knowingly file an inaccurate return.    Then the customer service rep said she'd send a link so that I could have fees refunded, presumably to start over again and pay again.    The link stated that no refund would be made after payment was made and documents downloaded.

The $45 premium service fee may be for paying your TurboTax product fee from your refund.  If you pay for TurboTax Online directly, you could avoid having this additional charge.    If you haven't filed yet, you can change your payment method in TurboTax Online following these steps:   Sign in to your account and open or continue your return. Select File in the left menu and proceed to the Just X more steps screen. On this screen, select Revisit next to You've chosen to deduct your TurboTax fees from your federal refund. Select View Payment Options on the next screen and select Pay now on the screen after that. Complete payment by entering your credit or debit card information. Continue to the Just X more steps screen to make sure the Pay With My Refund has been removed. Step 1 on the screen should now show that you paid with your credit or debit card. See this help article for more information.   @bnkhoi

highly doubt anyone at Turbotax reads these messages, it's all going way over their heads. Maybe it's time to switch to something else. I've been using Turbotax for many years and the last few years is when the glitches started coming. Not as good as it used to be. We have three files. Two disappeared, but I was able to resurrect them from my backup disc. Now the third one is gone and not even on the backup disc. It has already been filed with the IRS, but it should be available for next year when I file for 2025. It is nowhere to be found, and I did not put it in the trash. Trash hasn't been emptied for quite some time.Lucky for me I did save and print the pdf. But Turbotax is deleting files for some reason.

Related situation to this. I have a gap of about $40K between the two amounts as far as I can tell because I stopped accruing state tax-eligible wages in the last third of the year when I moved to a no-income tax state. Is that a sufficient explanation? Or should I go in there and somehow add those wages from the non-tax state to make them add up to the federal amount?
