@DanaB27 Thank you for your response. I still need your advice for the following questions: 1. I will mail my amended 2023 return to IRS. Should I only need to mail the form1040-X and the forms related to the excess contributions (form 1099-R, schedule 2, form 5329)? Since I owe money to IRS, I need to include a check for it, right? 2. Because it is now passed the due date of 2024, I have to pay the 6% excess contribution penalty for 2024. Since I already filed my 2024 return, I need to file an amended 2024 return for the excess contribution carryover or I can pay the penalty in 2025 return? 3. Should I only need to take a regular distribution for the excess amount, don't need to concern the earnings, right? (should be no any earnings since the market dropped a lot now). Thank you for your help!

I submitted both my Federal and New Mexico State Returns on February 13th. My Federal Return was accepted the same day, but my New Mexico State Return still shows Pending as of 4/24. I checked the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department web site, and it does not show the return having been received. I owed money and I am worried about having to pay a penalty for late submittal. Is there any way to see where my New Mexico State return submittal is being held up? Thanks!

After Windows 10 updates problems I finally solved, I still couldn't get rid of the "Failed to Install Update - Error 1603 - Fatal Error during install." Because of Turbotax's shortened hours, I couldn't reach them. I then stupidly the Application; now I can't get program reinstalled! I have .taxfile for 2024, but it doesn't seem to help to reinstall the program. I purchased Premier from Costco but can't remember how Turbotax helped me install it. NEED HELP!

Sorry Online is only for 2024 now. You have to use the Desktop program. Sorry it's too, late to start a 2023 or prior online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS. And too late to efile 2023. To do a prior year return you have to buy the Desktop program here, https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on. If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand. Here are some basic forms..... Here is the 2023 1040 return https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040--2023.pdf or if you want bigger type use 1040SR for Seniors, https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s--2023.pdf 2023 1040 Instructions https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040gi--2023.pdf 2023 EIC and Tax Tables https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1040tt--2023.pdf Schedules 1-3 https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s1--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s2--2023.pdf https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f1040s3--2023.pdf Don’t forget your state. And you will have to print and mail your returns. So be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing. Then when you file for 2024 you need to enter 0 for the 2023 AGI since you are filing 2023 late.

Your only proof of payment is your bank statement or credit card showing the payment coming out. Turbo Tax only passes your bank account number to the IRS or state for them to take it out of your account. (Most states do not let you pay by Direct Debit so you have to mail in a check or go directly to the state's website to pay). And some banks use different routing numbers for deposits and payments. Double check the number you entered with your bank. Check the cover sheet and see how you were supposed to pay it.

No. The IRS fixed it for you. Some of your Social Security is now taxable . So your refund is less. The IRS is right.

Also At the end Turbo Tax just shows you the net federal and state combined. But that is only for your info. You will still get the full refund and you need to pay a tax due. Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbotax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay. Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.

Lukester1980, thanks for the timeline on sending in your 709 n then the red flagging by irs. As a widower I only have my return which simplifies somewhat the complex web of the 709, prior years I could have split the gift between spouse n myself and been under the reporting requirement so no reporting needed. In many ways a flat tax would be more efficient, less cumbersome for citizens paying their share , and minimize tax evaders but it would have issues as well, and reducing the irs footprint and thin out tax payers burden by subsidizing fewer irs government employees. Won’t happen in my remaining years and likely the entire system will go officially bankrupt from our politicians overspending us into oblivion but that has a high likelihood in my remaining years. Good luck, seems like your in the homestretch to finalizing the fun 🥴
