@DoninGA Thank you very much for your help. Because my W-2 form was uploaded automatically, I had not reviewed the details carefully at first. After reviewing it now, I found the questions related to tips, and once I completed that section, the deduction was properly applied. I truly appreciate your quick and kind assistance.

The IT- 201 is for MFJ but let's compare: IT-201  You can file MFS while your spouse files IT203 MFS MFJ deduction, you both file as though full year, all worldwide income is included, higher standard deduction, potentially lower tax bracket IT-203 -spouse as MFS, may lose some credits or deductions but do not have to pay tax on income outside of NY.   You will need to compare income tax and credits/deductions to see which is best for you.

Exactly, You can't enter it as "other Income" or 1099-MISC since it will then be taxed on your state return.    Please only enter it this way: The 1099-G for the New York State Inflation Refund Check can be entered as a New York State refund in the TurboTax program. Income Other Common Income State and Local Tax Refunds on Form 1099-G   START or UPDATE Select the "Tax return year" on the "Tell us about the refund you received in 2025" as TAX YEAR 2023 Enter zero for "Payments and Withholding" Enter the amount that you received which is reported on that 1099-G   Select NO for the "Let's check if your 2023 New York refund is taxable" screen Once the NO radio button is selected a drop-down opens and you can enter the taxable amount which is the full amount reported on that 1099-G.   If you also receive a 1099-G for a 2024 state tax refund, that can be entered separately from this 1099-G.  You will attribute the "inflation refund" check to tax year 2023 and the State refund (if you received one) to tax year 2024.   This is the first year New York has issued a payment like this. There is no one dedicated screen to enter this 1099-G in the TurboTax program. Technically the New York State Inflation Refund Check is NOT a refund of tax. It is similar to an Earned Income Credit in so far as it is based on the Taxpayer's income, in this case their 2023 income, regardless of whether they itemized or used the standard deduction. It is not taxable on the state return, but is taxable on your federal return. Some answers you give the program are answers to make the program put the numbers where they need to go, they are not answers that are transmitted to the IRS. The amount of the New York State Inflation Refund Check will be reported on Schedule 1. The total on Schedule 1 is carried forward to Form 1040 line 8.     Here is a link explaining the New York State Inflation Refund Check Here is a link explaining the federal taxability of the check

Please be assured that TurboTax is aware of the federal and state refunds display issue, and our team is working hard to resolve it as quickly as possible. This is strictly a visual/display issue and does not affect your actual tax return or any calculations submitted on your federal or state tax returns. To verify your correct figures, you can always view or print a PDF of your actual tax forms (such as Form 1040), which contain the official data accepted by the tax authorities.   *UPDATE: As of today, Thursday, Feb 5th, this display issue has been resolved. Please post in this thread if you continue to see identical values for federal and state refunds after filing. Thank you!
After bitdefender uninstallation, reboot your PC.  Do you have any other antivirus/firewall software on your PC?  Window 11 has its built-in Window Defender by default. You do not need others.

Thank you very much DaveF1006!   We had already given them to our employees. I suspected it was a logjam somewhere but good to know that we are still in compliance. Thank you again!
How do you take it off the NY taxes so you don't get taxed on it?
I am having an issue with earned income credit (EIC). Qualify with one dependent so I should be getting the $4k plus for EIC credit and can not get it to change or override 1040 cell.  Thanks

In TurboTax Online, navigate to Tax Home > State taxes > Illinois > Revisit, from there, go through all the Illinois interview screens until you get to the state credits menu (so you know you've gone far enough into the state interview screens), from there, continue navigating through the questions until you see a menu that looks like this: Select Yes On the following screen, enter your email address, and select the checkboxes for which persons in your tax return should be evaluated by the Illinois Department of Revenue for affordable health coverage options.   In TurboTax Desktop,    Select Forms  Under Illinois Individual select Info Worksheet  Scroll to Part IV and check the box under Health Insurance Information Then, select Form IL-1040,  Scroll down to step 12 Line 42 and place your checkmark(s) next to Self, Spouse, or Dependent(s)
I was paid for mileage reimbursement from my contractor job, but that reimbursement was not included on the 1099-NEC. Do I need to add this for income, if so, where?
