I completed non-resident state, MA, first. I was able to exclude NJ income correctly. But NJ return does not allow me to exclude MA income.

Greetings, I imported my 1099s from Schwab and E*trade. Then when it decides to check if things need fixing it refused to allow me to move forward. So I had to enter work sheet. And I submitted the taxes. Problem is it has a double entry now and my refund is smaller because the bug forced me to double enter. Schedule B twice. CHARLES SCHWAB & CO., INC. 846.79 CHARLES SCHWAB & CO., INC. 846.79 Add the amounts on line 5. Enter the total here and on Form 1040 or 1040-SR, line 3b 1,693.58 This is wrong. Very, very annoyed. It sent it off and then my state taxes are also wrong. Mike

There is a significant logic bug in the California state module regarding penalty calculations. The software bypassed the state interview entirely, jumping from 'Let’s do state' to 'Done with state' in one click. Despite this, it auto-generated a penalty on the summary sheet that I only discovered by switching to 'Forms View.' Most importantly, simply running through the interview—without changing a single value or response—caused the penalty to vanish. This indicates that the software is defaulting to a penalty state in the background and failing to trigger the necessary 'Health Coverage' or 'Underpayment' validation logic until the interview is manually forced. Relying on the user to find an 'Edit' button is not a substitute for a functional step-by-step interview flow

I understand that the interview needs to be completed for accuracy, but the software didn't allow me to do that. It skipped directly from the start to the end of the state section without asking any questions. Here is the proof of the bug: TurboTax silently added a penalty to my CA return without any warning or 'Step-by-Step' notification. I only found it by checking the final summary/form view. When I manually went back and clicked through the questions (without changing any data), the penalty disappeared. The software is clearly calculating penalties erroneously before the user even has a chance to provide state-specific info. This isn't a user error; it’s a failure in the program's sequencing

She will have to get a copy of the 1095-A form from her parents to include on your joint tax return. Your spouse and her parents will have to enter Form 1095-A on both tax returns. TurboTax will ask you questions about if the policy was shared with someone and how to allocate the costs and credit.
The percentages that you should enter for your premium, your SLCSP, and your advance payment should be an amount that your spouse and her parents agree on. It could be 50/50/50 for your premium/ your SLCSP/your advance or another amount. Make sure they are in agreement and that the percentages on all tax returns add up to 100% together.
TurboTax will calculate the information that should be on your return based on your answers.
Refer to the TurboTax article Where do I enter my 1095-A? for navigation instructions.
TurboTax will automatically fill out Form 8962 once you enter your Form 1095-A if your spouse's parents received advance payments of the Premium Tax Credit. For more information, refer to the TurboTax articles: What is the Premium Tax Credit? and When should I include Form 8962 with my tax return?

The page is asking me to select between self employment, farm income, hobby, lawsuit settlement, medicaid waiver payments, or income that shouldve been reported on a W-2. I clicked that last of the options but then it wants me to have the company send another form verifying that I was a worker.

The software does not do this when you are filling out a partial resident. I moved from GA to OR in July and when I did the Oregon state return it will flag it as an error if you leave it blank. And when you enter the portion of your SS earned while residing in Oregon it then taxes it at the full state amount, even though Oregon does not tax social security. To make matters worse, you can't revisit that portion of Turbotax to edit it. When you try, it only gives the first step and not the page where you enter in SS. The only way to change it is to delete the entire state and start over. I've been using TurboTax for about 15 years - this is really messed up.
