Just did my daughter's taxes who is a complete 1040EZ. They're trying to charge her the $29 downgraded it and now they want over $100. Then I found out she has been paying the maximum amount over the last 8 years because she thought she had to. This is insanity they've been sued before for scamming people so if you're going to be doing a lawsuit let me know I'd be happy to join in and give you all the information. She's a waitress and earns less than $18,000 a year and they want to charge her almost $300 that's insanity.

The good news is that you only need to amend one of the returns; the IRS will disregard the other separately-filed return when they receive your amendment. How do amend my MFS returns to MFJ?

I refound the original quote from healthcare.gov/immigrants/lawfully-present-immigrants/, which said, "If your annual income is above 400% of the FPL: you may still qualify for premium tax credits that lower your monthly premium". I've been trying to find any substantiation for this point. Similarly, the tax software I'm using for the form has a similar question related to the above, but even with it selected the values that flow through aren't giving me much hope. Appreciate the help!

I found a way around it. It's not obvious. Mentioned in the first answer is something paying with a credit card vs having the fee taken from your federal refund. Do that. Also have the check mailed vs direct deposit. That's really key. I just payed $15 to e-file state (after a $10 credit). I'd rather wait for a few weeks for small refund than pay some stupid $40 fee.

I'm using TurboTax Deluxe (which I successfully used last year). I finished my federal taxes, and I'm trying to finish my NJ state taxes. However, the program isn't applying the 3-year rule to my pension, and it's saying I owe a lot of money to NJ, including interest. I know this isn't right, but how can I force it to apply the 3-year rule? It worked last year. Do I have to note something when I add my pension 1099-R in the federal portion? Please help!! Thanks.
