There is an amount in Box 7, the same as the total amount of the 1099 NEC since all of the money was earned/paid in Texas

Yes, Online TurboTax saves your work after each screen. To exit, go to left menu column and scroll way down to Sign Out.

Try “Allow Local Access” on your browser. This solved the download problem for me using Chrome. Good luck.

I’m sorry to hear you prepaid, I understand though. I’m also using H&R and I’ll never use TurboTax again, also H&R has representatives that aren’t from overseas… I think TurboTax is a total scam I can’t believe I used it for almost 15 years.. consider a refund or file a charge back on your card. I’m sorry we were all lied to.

I understand that in another thread an Intuit tax "expert" stated that this box is related to the EIC. Nowhere on form 1040 does it state that this box should not be checked if the EIC is not being claimed. The Intuit post may be from a tax expert, but this expert does not follow the US news. I will not file unless this box is checked. Does anyone know if other tax software allows this box to be checked?

@GTSeattle wrote: Thank you for the IP PIN excellent information! I was in the group where wrong PIN's were assigned so I now have a new updated IP PIN from my account on the IRS website. Next Challenge: How do I get the rejected e-filed return refiled with the corrected IP PIN? Do I just go through the e-filing process again as though the rejected return no longer exists? Once entered in the correct place, then I would run the Review and Error Check again just to make sure everything is still OK with the rest of the return before resubmitting. Then I'd go to the FILE section and follow the prompts and walk through the screens again to resubmit the efile. If you paid to efile a state return initially, it should not charge you again to resubmit the efile. Be sure you go all the way to the final screen and click a button to "Transmit Returns Now." Whenever a Federal return is rejected, the state efiled return also is rejected. So if you have both a Federal return and a state return, you'll have to resubmit both, which can be done at the same time.

Hi! I did ask the school and they said all disbursements, taxable or not, are recorded on the 1098-T. Would you recommend entering $4500 for box 1 then $4000 for box 5 (even though box 5 on the 1098-T says $7000)? This is what i’m thinking, but not 100% sure. Would this be a red flag? I don’t have an issue reporting the $3000 grant, but definitely do not want to get taxed on it. I don’t qualify for the AOTC. What’s the best way to enter this?

I used a 529 and had qualified distributions. I'm getting dinged because I'm only seeing a place to put in the 1098-T (tuition) expenses, not rent for the off-campus living.

@debracuaz asked: "1099 NEC reporting asks for "Box 6-State Number" - What is the State Number for Texas" By the term "reporting" does that mean you are entering a 1099-NEC for income you received in Texas? TX does not have a state income tax. You don't need to mention TX. Are Boxes 5,6, and 7 blank?

I received an oil lease bonus for property that I own. What is the correct source of income to use? There have been no royalties paid so far, I do own the mineral rights.

Hello, I'm helping my mother fill out her taxes. She was the beneficiary of my father's investment account, and ownership was transferred to her (with a new account created by the brokerage) after his passing years ago. He had ESPPs and RSUs from a company he worked for, and it had liquidated this past year, so all stocks were sold without my mother taking any action. The brokerage has not provided any supplemental information. From this thread, I'm inclined to have her use the FMV of the date he passed as the actual cost basis, but I'm not sure considering she was the beneficiary of the account and they had always filed taxes jointly. Not sure if it helps, but given the date of his passing was more than 2 years ago, TurboTax has recommended that she file as single rather than as surviving spouse. Many thanks for helping us in this stressful time!
