If the child you are looking to report as qualifying you for the Dependent Care Credit is not reported on your return as a dependent, then you don't qualify for the credit.    If you paid someone to care for a child who was under age 13 when the care was provided and whom you claim as a dependent on your tax return, you may qualify for the Child and Dependent Care Credit.   For tax purposes, the custodial parent is the parent with whom a child lives for the greater number of nights in the year; they generally claim the child as a dependent, but can release this right to the noncustodial parent using IRS Form 8332 or a similar statement, allowing the other parent to claim the tax benefits, notes the IRS. If the child lives with each parent an equal number of nights, the custodial parent is the one with the higher Adjusted Gross Income (AGI).    Please see this IRS article for more information about dependents of divorced parents. Please see this TurboTax tips article for more information about the Child and Dependent Care credit.

If TurboTax is not letting you continue on to e-file, you can try doing the following:   Go out of your program and go back in. Clear your cache and cookies. Try a different Web Browser. You can also try:     Log out of your TurboTax program, close the browser completely and then log back in. Temporarily turn off your firewall or anti-virus software that may block the transmission. If you are logged in multiple times on different computers, make sure you are only logged in in one place. Try using a different browser. Make sure you have a stable internet connection. Restart your computer in case there is lingering software conflicts. Try using an incognito or private window to sign in to bypass any cached issues. Make sure you have run all updates if you are using a desktop version of TurboTax. To do this, you can click on "Online" in the black bar across your TurboTax screen and select "Check for Updates".   The IRS officially starts accepting e-filed returns tomorrow (January 26, 2026). Also, you may have a temporary server issue. Try again tomorrow if none of these steps help.   Click here for information on Turbo Tax Support.   Please return to Community if you have any additional information or questions and we would be happy to help.

No one can do anything for you---we have no access to your tax return.   If you have not e-filed, you should be able to go back into the FILE section yourself to make changes and remove that 5 day early option.  If you already e-filed, it is too late unless the return is rejected and you can try when it rejects.

No, currently there aren't any existing issues with the calculation of this new deduction in TurboTax.  First, let's check your eligibility for the deduction, and make sure you qualify.    Per this article, 'What is the vehicle loan interest deduction?' there are multiple qualifying criteria:    You can deduct the full $10,000 if your income is under $100,000 (or $200,000 if Married Filing Jointly). If your income is higher, the amount you can deduct is less. The deduction is available even if you don't itemize your deductions. Do I qualify? To get the deduction, your vehicle must meet all these rules:   It was purchased, not leased, in 2025.   It’s a brand new vehicle. In other words, you didn’t buy it used.   Its final assembly was in the U.S.   You can check this by entering your VIN and model year into the VIN decoder provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.   You’ll also include the VIN on your tax return.   It's a car, van, SUV, motorcycle, or pickup truck that weighs less than 14,000 pounds.   You bought it for personal use. You didn’t pay the interest to a family member or a business you own. The loan must be secured by the vehicle. Common questions What if I use the vehicle for personal driving and business? It’s OK to use the vehicle for your business, as long as: The loan was a personal loan. You also use the vehicle for personal driving (it isn’t only for business). (added emphasis mine)   If you're certain that your vehicle purchase this year meets all the above rules i.e.,    the car is brand new and not used or leased,  you verified the VIN manufacturing history in the U.S.,  typed the correct VIN into the tax forms, double checked the class and weight is < 14,000 lbs., and you've used it at least partially for personal rather than business driving, and etc.,    Then further investigation could be needed.

The best way is to report as "Other Reportable Income", because you will not be able to efile without a valid EIN.   To enter in TurboTax:  Go to Wages & Income. Scroll to the very bottom to Less Common Income. Select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C -> Start. Select Other Reportable Income -> Start. Answer Yes to "Any Other Taxable Income?" Click on the blue "Add" box to enter the description & amount. " Note: In some states (like NY or PA), reporting it as "Other Income" may prevent TurboTax from applying state-level pension exclusions.

If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:  (Don't forget to give us the state)   TurboTax Online: Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.  Then select Tools below Tax Tools. You should be able to continue without entering a document ID Number. Select the option "I do not have a drivers license" if it is available.   For many state returns that ask for a Document ID Number, you can actually leave the document ID (8-10 alphanumeric characters) blank and continue to e-file. Some States may require this number and you will have to print and mail your return instead. You did not ask a question.   Although you might be able to view or print your information from the website, most banks, brokerages and other financial institutions do not have the data formatted for import into tax software before sometime in February.  So if you are wanting to enter it sooner, you have to key it in by hand.   Or….wait until it is available for import.   If you want to enter it manually, click the option that says “I’ll type it in myself”

Hi Dave.     Thanks for your prompt reply.  Your workaround was helpful.  I was able to enter the foreign interest where you suggested.     Hopefully, TurboTax will review its online 1099-INT form in light of this issue with entering foreign interest.  This was never an issue with turboTax’s downloadable software which I used for many years.  Similarly, I understand this is not a concern in the 2025 version of at least one other well known downloadable tax prep software which will electronically file returns, even without a FEIN entry in its 1099-INT form.  There's also an obvious inconsistency, of course, with TurboTax's current instructions explaining how to enter foreign interest which I assume described the preferred way of reporting this income.  I offer this feedback in a positive spirit and hope it will be useful to TurboTax.     Thank you for being there to help.
On Form 1099-R the state tax withheld is in box 14, not box 15. If no state tax was withheld, leave boxes 14, 15, and 16 empty in TurboTax.

Unfortunately, you may not.  Tips reported in box 7 or box 8 tells the IRS that the proper Social Security and Medicare taxes have been computed and reported in your behalf by your employer.   Ask your employer for a corrected W-2 (Form W-2C) that correctly reports your tip income and the Social Security and Medicare taxes that are paid in your behalf.   In TurboTax Online, within the W-2 entry screens, at the screen Let's check for other situations, you are allowed to report Tips not reported on my W-2.   See also the TurboTax Help How do I enter unreported tips?   [Edited 01/25/2026 | 6:55 PM PST]  @iloisiakissoja    Please see TurboTax Help that directly addresses your concerns here.

I’m running into an issue with TurboTax activations.   Whenever there’s a minor update, TurboTax asks me to activate the product again—even though I’m using the same computer. When I checked my account, I now see 3 out of 5 activations used on the same device, which doesn’t make sense. I’ve seen some articles mention this might be related to a network change, but I’m on the same home network the entire time—no VPN, no new router, no changes.

What is "it" that says accepted?  Where do you see that?   When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted  or rejected your federal e-file.  If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.   Check your e-file status:   https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/    What does it say in your account?  Does it show that the return was accepted?   Or does it say something else---like "rejected," "printed," or "ready to mail?”
