Where's my refund

My fed and state taxes were submitted Feb 12 2024, and here I am, April 25.  Much like another user posted:

"My federal taxes were filed and accepted March 1, and I still do not have my refund. TurboTax says the return was accepted. When I go to the IRS tool, it says that my federal return is still processing. Who call I call or where can I go to figure out what’s going on?"

Is it expected to be taking this long, and should I still just wait?

Where's my refund

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

Where's my refund

The IRS issues most refunds from e-filed returns in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.

To check the status of your refund:

  1. Check your e-file status.
  2. If it's been accepted, track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site.
    1. You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status, which you'll find on the first screen after signing in to TurboTax.
    2. If you mailed your return, wait 4 weeks after mailing your return before using the tool.
  3. If it's rejected, fix your return and file it again.
  4. If it's pending, wait until your return is accepted.

If it's been more than 21 days since your e-filed return was accepted, you can call the IRS directly to check on your refund status.
