If you receive both a W-2 and a W-2c (Corrected Wage and Tax Statement) from the same employer, you should not enter them as separate forms in TurboTax. Instead, the W-2c replaces the original W-2 by providing the corrected information. Simply update your W-2 entry in TurboTax using the details from the W-2c.
If you haven't filed yet
If you have not yet filed your tax return, follow these steps to update your W-2 information:
Delete the original W-2.On the "Your W-2 info" or "Wages & Income" summary screen, find the W-2 from that employer and choose the option to "Delete" or "Edit" it.
Add a new W-2.Go through the process of adding a new W-2.
Enter the corrected information.Use the amounts from your W-2c to fill in the boxes. The W-2c form has a "Previously Reported" column and a "Correct Information" column; use the amounts from the "Correct Information" column.
Indicate it was corrected. When you reach the "Uncommon situations" screen, check the box that says "W-2 was corrected by my employer (Form W-2c)".
If you have already filed
If you have already filed your tax return and it has been accepted by the IRS, you will need to file an amended return to use the corrected information.
Access your return.Go back into your filed tax return in TurboTax.
Edit the W-2.Navigate to the W-2 section and edit the W-2 from your employer. Replace the original, incorrect amounts with the corrected amounts from your W-2c.
Indicate it was corrected. On the "Uncommon situations" screen, check the box for "W-2 was corrected by my employer".
Complete the amended return.Continue through the rest of the filing process. TurboTax will calculate any changes and prepare the Form 1040-X for you to amend your return.
